Vehicle Detail
Up for your consideration today is my 1968 Pontiac GTO. I bought this out of the Des Moines Iowa Area where it's been since it was new. It runs and drives very well and will need just a little to get it to the next level. Although it's absolutely beautiful as it is now. I talked to the original owners of the car who remembered it very fondly! They bought the GTO in 1968 from Ritchie Pontiac Company in Waverly, Iowa. It always got what it needed and was very well cared for. Not using the solvents and salt on the streets in small town Iowa the car was extremely solid. They sold it in 1983 to their neighbor boy who babied it for the next 33 years! Ding the things that it needed and also rebuilding the original engine. He sold the GTO at a Mecum auction in Des Moines in 2007. At that point a restoration shop bought it and restored it for a man and his wife. Unfortunately the fellow passed and was never able to enjoy it. I bought the car from his widow who left it parked at home in the garage from about 2008 to 2015. The car is powered by it's original engine. The owners assured me the engine was never replaced, although it was rebuild with about 40K on it now. All stock and it runs superb. It has the correct "YS" code and I don't know where the VIN is. I'm told behind the power steering pump but?? You do have to use higher octane fuel or you do get a pinging. The transmission was rebuilt when the car was restored. It has a mild shift kit and works excellently. It also has posi trac and the gear ratio in unknown. They are highway gears as the car runs down the interstate at 75 with no high RPM's. As far as the body goes, again, she is very straight and shines beautifully. The car was very solid however water around the rear window did leak in the trunk area and ultimately got to the lower quarters. So the decision was made to replace both full rear quarter panels. I have pictures of the restoration I will include. The rest of the car was very solid. As far as I can tell all the other sheet metal is original. The front rubber nose has for some reason has some minor cracking here and there. With the age of the restoration, and limited use, this has me baffled as to why. I hear this is common though. The trunk is detailed as well as under the hood. Age has set in more than miles but still very show worthy. The interior is very nice and has new carpet and headliner. The seats are still original and are in good shape as well as the dash and door panels. However they are old. This is one of those things you might want to do to get it to the next level. The steering wheel is original and has some cracks and the center horn emblem glass (plastic) is cracked at the bottom. Still looks fine though as I have polished it up. The interior also is very rare from what I'm told and have seen. It has the bench seat and column shift transmission. Options on the car are as follows.....Power steering and the second owner added the power brakes. She has air and it does blow cold! I have receipts for many A/C parts used when it was restored. However, the high side of the fan needs repair for her to blow at a higher speed. The GTO has a factory AM FM radio. The FM works OK and the AM side doesn't get reception. My GTO also has the optional "hide away" Headlights that work perfectly. The rear bumper was re-chromed and it is perfect. All the light's, horn, dash light's, Turn signals work fine. The wheels are original to the car and were restored too. Tires are almost new condition but are several years old. The under body of the car is black under coating. It looks real nice, although this was not an "off frame" restoration. It didn't need it.I have many receipts from years ago as well as the protecto- plate. The restoration pictures are included in the sale of coarse. Overall this car is a very nice well kept car with a great history. I try to cover everything in my lenghtly description but I'm sure I missed a few things. So please call me for info you need. It's always best to come see the car or have it inspected, since opinions on things vary from person to person. If there is anything you deem important please address it before the auction ends because the car is sold as is. Also bid re-tractors,go on the the next car. These auction cost money. Reserve will not be provided. This is an auction. Bid what you'll pay. Figure how much an original 68 GTO will cost just to buy then restore it and HOPE it turns out as nice as this car! So bid accordingly. This car is not a hacked up POS. Again, Bernie 402 659 1118 Thanks and good luck!On Jul-18-15 at 20:28:44 PDT, seller added the following information: The times frame from when the original owners sold the car doesn't add up. They sold the car in 1978 to their neighbor kid. He kept it until 2007. That equals his ownership to 29 years. That's a long time! Also the car does not have the PHS paperwork. Was going to do that, but I'll let the new owner register it. I found out what I wanted to know from the original owners so it wasn't important to me. But it would be a nice addition!. Thanks again! And good luck!On Jul-20-15 at 16:30:19 PDT, seller added the following information: After many questions about the car having it's original engine I have put the car in the air and YES! A partial VIN IS ON THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK!!! So it is the original engine as the previous owner told me! Thanks ANDREW!! For the location to look at! Now people lets bid this REAL #'s matching GTO to where the actual value should be at. Again This car is #'s matching Engine!!
