Vehicle Detail
Sorry, I removed the original listing because the description did not pop up automatically, and too many people were asking questions that were in the description, and they also wanted more pictures. I had a buy it now price and a low reserve, but something got messed up in my several attempts to load pictures, and the buy it now and reserve was not there. I am now doing a no reserve auction with a starting price that is fair competition to other 300TD's that are on eBay. Of course eBay does not allow links in auctions any more, even to see pictures, I do not know how some people are doing it. Email me and I will send you a link to the undercarriage pictures. (I am only allowed 24) Please read the full description, and feel free to ask any questions. I just do not want any confusion about the car. Sadly, (but I know she'll go to a good home,) we are selling our 'Ellie'. A 1979 300td. TD stands for touring diesel, this is the actual million mile motor that is so described by Mercedes diesel wagon buffs. The OM617 non turbo I5 motor. We bought the car to be our son's first car, and to be a long distance travel car. This car, by the way, is a great first car for a new driver! You cannot race it! it is a tank, And, it is reliable! She soon became our regular dependable, with a great carbon footprint. Now, with Kids moving out, needing the money, and not needing anything so big, we decided to sell her. She came up to Portland with the original owner from San Diego in 2001, and she has all her manuals, including the vin stamped owners manual. The original owner took her to a local Mercedes repair shop Omega Motors, and I kept her going to the same place. I do not have many paper receipts, but the owner of Omega motors knows her well, and has all the info on her. Since I have owned her, The front suspension was replaced, the load leveling suspension was repaired, The A/C was converted to R-134, and blows nice and cold; slow for the air to get going for the old girl, but nice and cold . She had regular oil and Filter changes, and recently had all new glow plugs installed. The Central locking fully works (if you lock / unlock the driver's door, all doors lock / unlock properly. A little slow to unlock if the car sits for a long time, but they do open!) The rear wiper and washer work, all power windows work. The sunroof opens and closes well, and the rear tail gate needs no stick! (kinda common for these wagons) A few months ago I had new front brakes, rotors and wheel bearings installed. I had oil seepage at the oil pan, but when the alignment was done after the suspension the Mechanic tightened the pan bolts, and I have not seen any other seepage since. Now for the bad, there really is not a lot bad. Mostly cosmetic. The rear hatch lock is really sticky, bu t since the central locking works, I don't really use it. The black paint is fading in places, has a little surface rust, like around the edges of the sunroof, and a small 8mm rust patch under the left rear fender, behind the wheel and that is the only 'big' rust patch. all other rust is light surface rust, and mostly on exposed parts (like the axle shafts and exhaust.). The paint is original, as far as I can tell, I have not had any body work done other than buffing the paint out.. The trim around the door windows have dried and shrunk, (See pics) but you can still buy the trim from Mercedes, or an independent Mercedes interior supplier online. Or, as I have seen in other eBay ads, the owners just peeled them off and revealed a painted door. I did not want to peel them off, I wanted to leave the car as original as possible. The driver's door mirror cover is coming off (see pictures), and I have a new one which I will include. I did not replace it because I was waiting to repair the door trim. The Pillars behind the front seats are fading and do not look their best. I bought two replacements, (which I will include) but they need to be dyed. Palomino is not the same color as Bamboo. The seats are great, the carpet is great, except for wear in the back hatch carpet. The power antenna does not go down. It used to go up and down, just not fully. So I asked Google, and found out how to take it apart. Well, the antenna motor hums, but the antenna does not go down. The cruise control will accelerate with the controls, but does not hold speed. I live in the country and this 4th of July weekend, Ellie was the victim of a musket ball to the windshield. (see pictures by the passenger wiper) I do not know which neighbor shoots muskets, but I have the ball, and the windshield to show it was one of my neighbors. I can price it out, but the car was parked, and my insurance on the car was deactivated at the time of the incident. I am most certainly not a trained Mercedes mechanic, I have had the car for about a year and I would easily drive this car across the country. I have been very happy with my mechanic that I have. The car starts the first time, every time with 1/4 throttle on cool to warm days, and 1/2 throttle on icy days, and gets GREAT gas mileage. I have had 32 highway going on long trips! The car came with monogrammed floor mats, and I just kept using them. I will keep them in the car as well. Thank you for looking, please know she is not perfect, but she is a great car! Cheers! I will be replacing the windshield and rubber moulding on Monday July 20th, So the windshield will be fixed.
