For sale is a unique 1984 Vanagon with just 25,600 actual miles from new. It was picked up at the Hanover factory on 8-17-84 by my late friend Gottfried Hogh. Gottfried bought several new VWs and Porsches over the years and all of them were via tourist delivery. After taking delivery in Hanover, Gottfried drove this Vanagon 3,242 miles around Europe before having shipped back to the USA and Ann Arbor, MI. All Tourist Delivery Documentation is included with the sale. After arriving back in Ann Arbor it was driven regularly, but still has only posted about 950 miles per year since that time. Gottfried passed away in 2004, but six months before his death it was acquired by a mutual friend, Jonce Fancher of Saline, MI. Jonce is a well know VW enthusiast, especially busses, and went through the Vanagon to make sure it was solid mechanically. While in his possession, Jonce removed the original wheels and tires and installed 16” BBS wheels with Goodyear Assurance 205/55/16‘s. The original wheels are available if the auction winner would like them, contact me and we can make arrangements. After 5 years of ownership, it was traded to another mutual friend, Neil Lynch of Ann Arbor, MI for a Super Beetle convertible. Last year, Neil decided to thin the heard and then it was my turn to own “Blunderbuss”, the name Gottfried had given it upon taking delivery in Germany. Feel free to ask questions. Although Gottfried is no longer with us, the other owners are all available to answer any query you may have. As stated before, all of the Tourist Delivery documents are included in the sale of this special Vanagon. It starts, drives, steers, handles and stops like new. It has been well cared for mechanically, and is what I would call a survivor aesthetically because there have been no “restoration” attempts. Nothing has been painted, plated or touched up. Other than mechanical maintenance and the wheels it is 100% original. Doors, hood and deck lid close easily with great gaps Windshield and weatherstrips all original and in very good condition All other glass is also original and in good condition All trim 100% original, complete and in very good condition Interior: Original Royal Blue Fabric interior in excellent condition Seats slide and operate as new Rear seats in as-new condition Original carpet in excellent condition, one hole in the carpet behind the driver’s seat, see pictures. It is easily repairable but I have left it as-is so the new owner could decide what to do Perfect original headliner Vent windows work perfectly Sliding windows work perfectly Inside mirror is as new with clear glass in very good condition No wind noise or other noise concerns when driving Driver and passenger window winders operate smoothly, feel new. Engine: Engine is 100% original with just over 25,000 actual miles driven since new Slight oil leak, as they all do Noise-free Turns over quickly, starts promptly Rock steady idle Pulls smoothly and runs cool Transmission: No noises when driving Shifts as new, very smoothly Suspension, brakes, steering: Rides beautifully, no suspension issues whatsoever Parking brake correctly adjusted and fully working Sixteen inch BBS wheels** Goodyear Assurance 205/55/16 tires, as new Drives as it should. Tracks straight. Steering wheel is level when driving straight No rattles or other concerns Brakes function as-new and with no pulling.
