Vehicle Detail
1970 Subaru 360 Deluxe Microvan One of the most complete 360 Deluxe vans you will find. The van starts, runs and drives under it's own power but brakes don't work at all right now. The engine is running in the under bonnet pictures. All five tires including spare are original and all are weathered somewhat but all hold air. 4 NEW 145R10 Kumho Power Star tires come with van. The engine cover and inner tailgate panels was removed for pictures and is included, complete, and correct for van. The body/underbody/floorpan all have very minimal surface rust. There is no rust holes or scaly rust anywhere on this van. (Note pictures of front floorboards have glue from carpet on them....not rust) The original fuel tank has been drained and looks to be in really good shape...just needs a good cleaning. The original fuel cap is missing. The previous owner put the boat tank in the van just to be able to move it around and is still hooked up to fuel system. The oil injection system appears complete and functional but to be safe I have been mixing the fuel. Heater, heater hoses, heater controls and heater boxes are all there and the doors still work in the heating system as they should. This is quite uncommon to find. The clutch works but drags a bit and grabs fairly hard. It is not noisy; it just grabs. Rust on flywheel/pressure plate from sitting would be my best guess. Van has been stored inside since I bought it several years ago. The marks on the roof and driver's side upper door frame appear to me that someone may have wrapped a chain through the doors to pick up van at one point. When I purchased the van the previous owner told me a small branch fell on it but looking at the marks I believe it was probably a chain. NEW battery included (already installed). The tip of the choke cable is broken off at the carburetor. This may be repairable but I am including a NEW NOS Genuine Subaru choke cable with the van. The front wheel cylinders need rebuilt. NEW wheel cylinder kits included with van. The rear wheel cylinders need replaced. NEW rear wheel cylinders included with van----these wheel cylinders are not exact replacements and will require slight modification to backing plates. These replacement wheel cylinders were recommended by posts in the Subaru 360 Driver's Club and are steel rather than aluminum so they should not need rebuilt nearly as often as the OE all aluminum ones. Front seat is original and in condition pictures indicate. Rear seat is original and in great shape.....Many of these are either missing or beat to heck when you find one of these vans. Bumpers and hubcaps will need re-chromed. Hubcaps are all dented at least somewhat. (The finned aluminum drums look great exposed when cleaned and polished. I would suggest going for that look as well as powder coating the rims when you have the new tires installed---just my 2 cents) Glovebox liner is present and in decent shape. Some new steel brake lines have been installed; however, I am not sure of the condition of the master cylinder. Exhaust is a bit louder than I think it should be so may need muffler repaired or replaced. I think there is a hole at the engine side of the muffler but I can't see it. The correct air cleaner assembly is still present. Interior door trim panels and interior cargo area panels are all there and in decent shape but I think some or all may have been painted at some point. The windshield is cracked; however, a NEW DOT-Approved replacement windshield is included as well as a NEW replacement windshield gasket. Just try to find either of these items....it took me years to locate them. I have a clear PA title for the van BUT the mileage on the title says 7,048. I bought this van in Ohio a number of years ago and I believe the folks at PENNDOT misread the actual miles from the form as this number instead of the correct, at the time, 7,018 miles. The odometer currently reads 7,025 miles and should be correct as I have never ran the van on the highway since I purchased it. It has been ran around the garage and yard to "exercise" it. I know this isn't a big deal but I just saw this on the title and wanted to make sure I communicated this. Engine runs on both cylinders and sounds decent. No unexpected noises. The carburetor needs a good cleaning but the van will still idle once it warms up and works well enough to get to around 25 mph right now---plenty fast for me around the garage/yard without brakes. When properly tuned up these vans will run about 60-65 mph on the level and were supposed to get around 60 MPG, I think. The speed is realistic but the fuel mileage is not. All doors open and close as they should. Front windows both roll up and down as they should. Sliding windows in back doors have some dirt/rust in tracks and I have made no attempt to move them. Tailgate/back glass latch does not release properly---I think it isn't anything major as the tailgate/hatch will open with the cables. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will attempt to reply as soon as I can. On Jun-24-15 at 07:04:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Please note: The rubber seals around front doors will need replaced. Also, the rear door sliding window gaskets and window frame areas will need attention. There is some scale rust on the bottom of the window frames on the back doors and they both will need new gaskets as well. On Jun-24-15 at 14:11:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Reserve has been lowered. Additional pictures are available. On Jun-25-15 at 12:58:05 PDT, seller added the following information: There is a small current draw on battery when van sits for a day or so. The shipping weight of these vans was around 1200 pounds.
