I am selling my 1976 Mercedes 230-4, that I purchased from a dealer auction on february 15 this year with unbelievably 7515 miles under our business license butintended for personal ownership. The only reason for the sale is that it would not pass California emissions. She is in amazing condition considering the age. The interior being the high point. The exterior is not far behind although it was painted,the date is unknown. I received the car in non running condition. I got it running with some repair done by myself with the help of neighbors. The milage on the car is the center of all our discussions. The auction sold it to me with Actual milage, so legally there is nothing to talk. The condition of the car also hints to it's accuracy. First of the odometer works, second the digits on the panel are not out of straight line hinting no tampering. The gas in the gas tank was horrible, the shop that restored the tank showed me about half of tank was full of dried bad gasoline. I remember the first time I put gas in it prior to removal it filled up with only 4 gallons. This means the car was sitting for at least 20 years. The tires were out of round with flat spots until I drove on them for about 10 miles very scary. I left them on to show originality, but they have to go. Everything else works as it should on the car. There are no leaks. There are some occasional noises from the suspension but nothing major. There is not much rust to talk about. Mostly surface and that is on the undercarriage. The only problem part was a section the rear floor behind the driver seat, that I repaired already, and that was due to rear window being left open at least when I received it. List of repairs: Gas tank removed, emptied completely and left in acid bath for a few days and cleaned and resealed. Changed the Ignitor. distributor fuse and points and rotor with spark plugs Installed an electric fuel pump with new filter, cleaned the fuel lineChanged rear left axle. I have been on both sides of the deal and am sure the buyer and seller point of views are very different, but I am trying my best to stay open minded and describe the car as close as possible, no matter what the value of the car is.
