Designed to be the best car on the road, a new car engine was test run for 265 minutes, 40 minutes under FULL LOAD. This means that an owner of a new Mercedes 6.9 could take the car out and drive it to it's rated 140+ mph top speed (as this writer did in 1979). Present day, blessed with the gear ratios Mercedes- Benz saw fit to use, 80 mph is almost a minimum cruising speed and the 100 - 120 mph range feels absolutely natural. There is a list of contributing design features that contribute to the rock solid feel of a 6.9. The genius of the Hydro Pneumatic Self Leveling Suspension, combined with Zero Offset steering with Anti Dive (sourced from the legendary C111 car series) made a large car so tossable, that it has to be driven to be believed. A very expensive Dry Sump oil system holding 13 quarts of oil kept the engine in good health: to this day, VERY few 6.9 cars truly need crankshaft bearings- they remain in good condition...All housed in a body structure so solid, the phrase "Bank Vault Doors" seems to be invented for this car. You have to hear them close shut for yourself - impressive EVERY time. This particular car listed here has covered a low 76,343 miles, and has the added benefit of being a Rust Free California car. The mileage and condition (see pictures) tell it all: a special use car. The paint + chrome are Excellent + , as is the original black leather interior. The burl wood dash accents are truly a pleasure to see: the natural complexity of the wood grain was a master stroke to lend that special touch to an otherwise "carved from solid steel " type of car. During our period of ownership, we have done a variety of maintenance work to keep up the car, and let us put some enjoyable miles on with peace of mind. At present, all major systems are in proper operating order, all gauges work properly, and all lighting functional.
