Photos of the car can be seen at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/58427540@N05/sets/72157647373156144/Pictures in that album can be clicked on and enlarged for closer viewing. One of the items in that album is a short video of the motor running. I bought the car which had not been run in at least 4 years, and I was not sure what it would take to get it running. I had it trailered over to my mechanic who got it running with only a little fiddling. He found that it would only keep running if he jumpered the ceramic resistor going to the coil and decided that there was some unnecessary resistance at some point in the wiring under the dash, probably at the ammeter. He has had it at his shop for a few months and has not been inspired to squeeze under the dash to check the wiring problem. So it's been at his shop, and I haven't had an opportunity to get my hands on it except for occasional visits. I stopped by recently, and the car fired up with little effort so I shot this video while it was at fast idle. For some reason it would now keep running even without the jumper wire in place. 50 pounds oil pressure at idle. Water temp gauge went up to 190 with just a few minutes of running. Good points about the car: · least amount of spiderweb cracking in the fiberglass surface I have ever seen on one of these cars, although there is some, and the paint is not nearly as good condition as it appears in the photos· nice alloy wheels· tires have very little wear· excellent wood dash - must be aftermarket, and the vinyl dash pad is excellent· does not appear to have had any body damage or repairs except at the bottom of the rear panel · excellent seat upholstery; decent center console, good door panels· has the rear trunk tray which is often missing· new battery· new Cobra style outside mirror to replace the ugly faded one currently hanging off the side of the car· good chrome bumpers· good lenses and glass all around· nice original steering wheel - slightly bent· clear Illinois title in my name (title says 1972 Lotus S2, but VIN is 651056R which would make it a US Federal model probably a 1969 or 1970 manufacture date)Not so good points:· unknown condition of engine other than it will start and run· unknown condition of brakes, clutch, and transmission· headliner falling down· wiring will require much sorting· needle of speedo has fallen off inside the instrument· missing Lotus lettering on rear deck· turn signal cluster rotates on steering column· ugly faux chrome trim around windshield and missing upper corner trim pieces· passenger side door has slight droopage (about an inch) when open; requires a slight lift when closing; driver door not a problem· engine compartment prop will require a new rubber grommet to work properly· could use new interior carpeting The underside:Although everything on the underside is coated in surface rust, all the frame and suspension arms are very solid. The front frame box visible from inside the front compartment is quite solid. Other items of note which are visible in the pictures: · a rip in the fiberglass sheet on the bottom side ahead of the passenger side rear wheel well· another slight separation in the fiberglass at the back edge of the front trunk compartment· the ball joint rubber dust covers on both sides are toast · brakes appear to have had some recent attention - stainless steel lines and fresh-looking wheel cylindersHope this helps you get an understanding of the condition of the car. I didn't find it in a barn (and it's been kept indoors since I've owned it), but I think of it as a barn find type vehicle in that I don't know much about its history and haven't had a chance to completely inspect the vehicle myself since it has been at my mechanic's place since I bought it. Mileage is unknown, contrary to the number which eBay required me to list in the item specifics.Buyer is responsible for transport costs. The car is available for inspection in Springfield, Illinois. I have advertised this car elsewhere, so I reserve the option to cancel the auction.
