Vehicle Detail
On the block is a 1974 VW Superbeetle. I have enjoyed doing a light restoration to this little bug, and as often happens, before I have completely finished a new project has caught my eye, and in keeping with the deal I made with the CFO (my dear wife), if a new one comes in, something has to go. This is a running and driving beetle. I replaced the transmission with a rebuilt unit from Rancho in California, and it shifts well and doesn't pop out of gear like the old one did. I thought I would need the shift connector bushing, but the old one under the back seat is fairly recent, so you have a couple new ones when you decide to change that. The engine runs very well, doesn't smoke, and has a new carb, sparkplugs, wires and 50 miles on a valve adjustment and oil change. I am including the oil strainers and gaskets for two more changes. The brakes stop the car straight, but are at about 50% on the pads, so I bought everything to replace them, but, didn't get around to it. I have a new vacuum advance distributor in the box that will make the engine run even better, but it runs good now, and again, I didn't get around to it. I had bought a new exhaust with heat manifolds to replace the original, because the tailpipes are rusty and will likely fall off any time, but they haven't yet, and so there is the new exhaust. So that's the mechanical. The exterior of the car is a 10 footer, with a recent paint job (VW metallic blue). There are some rust bubbles in the rain gutters, but the rest of the car is very solid. Yes, there is the traditional hole in the floor under the battery, and yes, I have the patch panel to go there as well :). Tires are in good shape,80% tread with a little dry rot on two. The interior of the car is very serviceable, with good seats, door panels and headliner. The headline does have a couple small holes. The right window gets a little stiff if not used often, so I had , you guessed it, ordered the window regulator and left it in the packaging. Driver's side works just fine, not sure I see the .....oh yes....the CFO side.....Ok, well, I guess that should have been fixed, and perhaps I could have.....oh well, onward....The heat tubes are in great shape, and regardless of what you have heard about VW beetles being cold, if the heat system is working correctly, you will not freeze in a bug. Trust me, your feet will not be cold. Defrost, well that's another subject........ All in all, this is a great little car, dependable, and will put a smile on your face like it does every one who sees it. When you do have to stop for gas, which of course is not often, plan for a little extra time for everyone at the pump to tell you about their bug, their parent's bug, their first date in a bug, how much they have always wanted a bug, you get the picture. It gets more looks than my Vette. This bug is as is. No warranty expressed or provided. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will be happy to answer them. Please be aware that winning the auction is not the start of negotiations, it is the end, so ask all the questions before you bid. Cash is the key to a clear title transfer on the day you show up to pick it up. If you have less than 3 on your history, you must send me an email and we will have to have a training session on why you need to have your money in hand before you hit the bid button., Thanks for taking the time to view my beetle, and happy bidding!
