Vehicle Detail
I am listing a 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe. This is a car that was purchased by my father in 1973 and has remained in the family ever since then. It is a very nice car that is solid, tight, and just a joy to drive. This is a wonderful super solid runner and driver that will absolutely be a blast to own. Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally, nationally and globally, and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. If you are SERIOUS about this car - please call my cell # 408.768.8858. My Father had the car for many years, then gave it to his nephew (my cousin) who also lived in California. This then made its way to his brother (my other cousin) up in Oregon. My cousin and his sons did the restoration work up in Oregon. The restoration of this Ghia was done with love and care. The car was originally "Navy" blue (an almost purple color) and it had a Formula Vee stripe on the lower sides. The engine I am told is all original. The car has been well cared for and has been regularly serviced. The mileage on the car is a little bit more than what it reads - somewhere in the 70k range, as the original guages were stolen while it was in the body shop having its repaint done - so - I am is selling the car as unknown miles, even though what it reads is pretty close. Given the age of the vehicle its sold exempt mileage anyhow. Everything is functional and operational except for the fuel gauge and the stereo deck. The brakes and calipers have been replaced, and the entire interior redone. Lots of care went into this part of the change, and the interior is very clean and well done. Non-smoker, the glass is all good - no breaks cracks or issues. I also put in retractable seat belts in the front and also seat belts in the back (still have originals too). I have a car cover which will also be included in the sale. The stereo is definitely a huge upgrade from stock - it has a Kenwood CD player (again deck part does not work), an amp (most of it is hidden - and the amp under the rear seat) - front and rear 6 inch round speakers, woofers, and Infinity tweeters. The wheels are chromed 16 inchers - and are wrapped in Toyo 205/40ZR-16's front and rear. The hubs/drums were all replaced, converting the bolt pattern to 4 on 100mm. There is an original type wheel and tire for the spare, but I don't have the original wheels. The paint was very well done - and the car largely taken apart for this, which you can see by the difficulty in finding any of the original color. There is no rust that I can find anywhere, but a couple very small bubbles in the paint right in the area of the round body plugs on either side. One floor pan has been replaced to have a good flor pan in that area. Oregon uses no salt on it's roads, nor does California - which is why the sheet metal is so solid. Is the car perfect? No. It's a driver, has mostly all original chrome, and was built / rebuilt to enjoy and to drive. This is a super nice turn key Ghia - not completely stock, but an awesome and fun driver to enjoy, take to shows and show off in - while getting great MPG at the same time. Cars like this don't come along often, and aren't for the shy. You will expect to get tons of thumbs up, and questions just about everywhere you go. This is a car you can take to car shows and do well with, and own with pride. Now for the nitty gritty: DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PAY!
