Vehicle Detail
I bought this car from a classic car owner in December of 2013. The car had been restored in the 80s and was garage kept since then by the previous owner and myself. My intentions with this car were to get everything in good running condition and keep the aesthetics original. Once I invested the money for a new windshield and gasket I noticed the brakes needed to be repaired, so I bought all new rotors, calipers, pads and all that. One thing led to another and touching up the paint turned into painting the whole car. Once the paint looked new the interior needed to look new too, then the wheels, then this and that until nearly everything on the car is new or planning to be new. Now, just after a year of owning this car I'm over $10,000 into it and I can only see myself putting more into it to get it "just right". There are a few reasons why I need to sell this car and they all come down to money. Life has surprised me with some health issues and I have no more room in my life for this car. If I'm being honest I see this car as a work in progress as I'm sure most classic car owners do. Today March, 25 2015 was the first day I started the car up since December. It started up and runs strong. Here's a list of all of the repairs, parts, and labor from the last year (ALL mechanical work and installation was done by professional mechanics): New brake calipers front New brake rotors front New brake pads front Repacked wheel bearings front New dual master cylinder New brake lines partial Gas tank cleaned (was going to replace with new, but was in good condition, so just cleaned) New larger capacity alternator (in anticipation for aftermarket stereo) New washer fluid lines and bag New headlights, turn indicators, and taillight bulbs (headlights need to be aligned - simple adjustment All new interior bulbs New headliner and heat resistant padding New sound deadening floor and trunk floor New interior carpet New Grant wood steering wheel New voltage regulator (may need adjustment) New hounds tooth trunk liner Minor body repair - dings, dents, rust repair, Driver’s floor pan and trunk reinforced with fiberglass and POR15 (previous metal repair was done - fiberglass was to reinforce) New primer, paint, clear (Has not been machine cut and buffed yet - see pics for paint condition and color - metallic black - paint is not perfect - see pics) Interior upholstery removed, cleaned, and vinyl dyed burgundy (driver's seat moved back 2 inches for more leg room - seat belts included, but not installed) New weatherstripping - doors New window channel and sweepers New trunk weatherstripping New windshield and gasket New battery New wheels and tires w/ lug nuts (18x8 front, 18x9 rear - Toyo Proxes 4 tires) New front wheel studs New front and rear shocks New front springs (Jamco) New wiper blades New side mirrors (not stock) New reproduction Thunderbird side emblems New reproduction belt molding New old stock rear taillight cover New reproduction floor mats Carburetor adjusted Fluids changed Previous owner installed new sequential turn indicator wiring relays and it works beautifully New cables and battery quick disconnect not installed New speakers and stereo not installed New heater core and hoses not installed New decals engine not installed New valve cover gaskets not installed All repair manuals and reproduction owners manual included Side skirts included, but not painted * Car comes with 2 sets of wheels and tires - aftermarket and original steel wheels - no rust, great condition - reproduction poly white wall tires like new - see pics Video of the car to come - looking like earliest would be Saturday afternoon, 3/28. Waiting for cooperative weather/no rain or snow. Will do walk-around, highlight specifics, and drive. Please email me if you have any questions whatsoever. Thank you. My answer from an email question: There was very little bubbling when I got the car around the rocker panels. That and any other small rust spots have been sanded or grinded down to bare metal, protected with POR15 if necessary, primed, and painted. The body was and is in very good shape. The previous owner restored the car in the 80s and repaired any rust with lead - i noticed when I was prepping to paint last summer. I have honestly never driven the car more than 15 miles at a time. Since I've owned it (since 12/2013) it's pretty much just been in and out of mechanic shops and my garage. I occasionally take it around the block to get it moving. I would recommend a trailer just to be safe (Interested party lives 350 miles from me). I'm firm in my price right now. If it doesn't sell this go around I might lower it a bit, but once the weather gets nicer I plan to get the motor mount issue and engine bay taken care of before I list it again, but then I'd initially ask for more. There are small leaks as usual, but nothing I've ever needed to address. I took it in to a mechanic to fix any leaks. I bought valve cover gaskets and a rear main seal gasket, but it apparently didn't need it - just tightening of some bolts. I did have to top off the brake fluid today after it was sitting over winter. I've had the brakes looked at and lots of money spent over 3 trips to the mechanics and they assure me there are no more leaks. And finally there is no A/C and I don't think there ever was. I did install a heat barrier under the new headliner to help with heat absorption. On Mar-26-15 at 10:22:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Video requests? I will be taking video as soon as it stops snowing/raining, hopefully by this weekend. I want you to see every aspect of the car, especially if you can't see it in person, so if there are specific things you want to see please send me a message and I will include them in my video. Also, if you want to talk about the car please send me a message and I will give you my phone number. I've bought 3 cars online with mixed/bad results and I want to give you the experience and info I never had. On Mar-26-15 at 10:27:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Also, to avoid any mystery or frustration the reserve is set at $6500. Why even have a reserve then...? I don't know, eBay asked me for one and it couldn't be the same as the opening bid for some reason. Good luck! On Mar-27-15 at 12:32:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Question: Hi there I was wondering if it's the original engine and what engine, 390? Is it going to sell on eBay? And what trans c4 ect. Any smoke or other issues beside what you posted on cl. Thank you and have a good day. Answer: Hello, 390 FE, original motor, original miles. I was told the car was restored in the 80s, but I don't know if that included an engine rebuild - I suspect not. Has a C6 transmission according to the production date of the vehicle. I have not had this verified, but I have no reason to believe otherwise. The engine runs strong, no smoke, no leaks except maybe an extremely minor leak out of the driver side valve cover - I will show this in a video. I do have valve cover gaskets new in box and it would be a good thing to replace them eventually since they're probably from the 80s, but isn't necessary now. Engine runs just as well in hot or cold temps. The engine sounds great, runs strong at idle, on city streets, or on the highway, and of all the things I had to do on the car the engine was not even a concern. Aside from a power steering leak, brake fluid leak, and valve cover leak all in the engine bay that were all repaired the first week I had the car over a year ago I've had no issues mechanically with the engine. The only issue that I can tell is a bad motor mount. I'm going to post a video of the car running, shifting, and driving to my Ebay listing Saturday or Sunday, but most likely Sunday as it will be warm enough for me to clean it up a bit. If the car doesn't sell on Ebay I'll leave the listing on Craigslist and when the weather gets better and I have available time and money - Most likely May, I'll first get the mounts replaced, finish up the cosmetic restoration of the engine bay, and lastly figure out the electrical quirks. After that the car will be totally redone and I'll most likely relist it on Ebay in June and presumably attract higher bids since the car will be completely ready to drive and show. Thanks for the questions and keep an eye out for that video on Ebay Sunday, or stop on by and check it out if you're in the area next week - the weather is supposed to be pretty fair. On Mar-28-15 at 13:47:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Video will be up today, hopefully in a few hours after I upload it. Please forgive my rambling. I didn't prepare any sort of presentation and I have a tendency to want to talk a lot, but I resisted the urge. Thanks again for your interest and again as always feel free to contact me. On Mar-28-15 at 20:00:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Video is up on YouTube!! A couple things to note: The car hasn't been washed since September 2014. The paint has not yet been machine cut, buffed, or waxed. This video was made in 22 degree weather, so the start up was a little slower than usual. Thanks for viewing my car, dealing with my talking, and have a great day!On Mar-28-15 at 20:06:28 PDT, seller added the following information: On Mar-29-15 at 00:54:04 PDT, seller added the following information:
