Up for auction is a 1989 Volkswagen GTI. I had originally purchased this with the intention of restoring and making a clean driver but work got in the way for a bit and I recently relocated. It is currently in my sister's garage in San Mateo. I was hit with a large medical bill after an accident while uninsured, so it's a no-brainer, have to sell. Good: -Timing belt and water pump were just replaced -Aftermarket radio works well -Tires are fairly new and have 90%+ life -Suspension is also fairly new and rides well (eBay coilovers) -Engine feels strong and no smoke -Dash is in good shape -Rare Zender rear spoiler -Chassis is in great shape (no accidents reported and no evidence of any), rust free with the exception of light surface rust near battery tray. -Registered to Sept 2015 -Manual windows roll up and down great Bad: -A/C is not working, looks like the heater fuse needs to be fixed (common in mk2s from what I've read). -Previous owner reported that one of the exhaust gaskets (where header meets block) needs to be replaced. No smoke/other symptoms but will include replacement gasket. -Odometer does not roll. PO reports it has been like this for a year and title check confirms that this seems reasonable. -Windshield has crack -Overall interior condition is between fair and good, needs some help. Headliner is a little droopy. -Key ignition is push to start, Key turned to '2' position (as normal) and then there's a push button, similar procedure as an s2000. If desired, can be fixed with new ignition cylinder. -Missing driver side door moulding (will include passenger moulding). -Rear shocks for hatch are starting to fail -Small dings here and there but paint is good considering age and for the most part, body is straight. Keep in mind, this is a 26 year old vehicle. It's not perfect, but it has a lot of potential and is mostly stock. Seems like these mk2 16v GTIs are hard to find in the states so here's a chance to own an 80's classic. I will assist if needed with shipping.
