THIS BEAUTY HAS THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS COMBINED. The Bel Air was produced by Chevrolet from 1950-1981. U.S. production ceased in 1975, production in Canada for their home market continued until 1981. The Bel Air debuted as a somewhat under stated model. However, in 1955-1957, the wildly popular, second generation tri-five models took the styling genre by storm. The third and fourth generation fell prey to the Cadillac style big bodied, big finned examples of 1958-1960. This was a short lived design, and Chevrolet broke new ground with the all new Fifth Generation. Definitely, the 1963 was the most popular of this generation. The Fifth generation (1961–1964), began in 1961 with a totally new body, not just new sheet metal. By the time 1963 rolled around, the design had been developed and perfected into one of the most popular versions of all time. Brand new body lines brought crisp new looks to the full-sized 1963 Chevrolet Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne. Chevrolet was on a role and topped the production charts in 1963. While comfort wasn't the only thing on Chevrolet's mind - Chevrolet produced a new 427-cubic-inch competition V-8 that outran everything early in the season at Daytona. Chevy also aided its racers by offering dealer installed aluminum front bumpers and front sheet metal. Still "real fine" was the famous 409, offered in three versions including a; 340-hp 4 barrel, the unchained 409 hp and the new solid-lifter-high-compression power house offering 425hp. The Iconic status of the Bel Air has endured through the decades, with the 1963 only slightly trailing the 1955-1957’s. The true popularity of these cars didn’t emerge until the hot rod era of the late sixties and seventies. Nearly every Baby Boomer can relate to the modified ’63’s prowling the streets with the venerable small block Chevy roaring under the hood. There were plenty of advantages to this engine. The high winding, easily modified power plant fit perfectly into the average gear head or racer’s budget. Competitive yet affordable. The real terror was inflicted, however, by the big block powered pavement pounders. Although rare compared to the 283-350 cu. in. screamers, no one would ever forget the sight of a big block ’63 Chevy launching and ripping down the street or strip. This is one of those examples. Built and maintained originally decades ago, then rebuilt, adhering to the vintage throwback era. Another example, we brokered the only 1968 Camaro Z-28 Convertible in July 1993 for 165K, it sold in 2002 for over 7 figures.
