1978 Ford LTD 4 Dr Sedan 460 CID (7.5 Liter) / 4 BBL JUST 104,xxx ORIGINAL PAMPERED MILES!!! ....39 PICTURES AVAILABLE... LINK BELOW Hello, thank you for viewing this immaculate 1978 sedan. This may appear to be a basic 70’s full-size vehicle, but it is truly a special car with a few rare options, and an absolute joy to drive and share with people everywhere it goes. It is a beautiful vehicle with many years of good service in its future. It can easily fill the role of a daily driver, or it would be just as at home in a nice collection or a museum setting. MECHANICAL PARTS ARE IN TOP CONDITION AND HAVE HAD ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE, ETC. History of the 1975-78 Ford LTDs These were very popular vehicles in the 1970s used for everything from police departments, cab companies, business people, family car (especially the wagon version), and personal luxury cruisers (especially the 2-dr Landau versions). Of the hundreds of thousands sold in the various available configurations I have read estimates that less than 1% were equipped with the 460 CID/7.5 Ltr motor like this one. While the Ford 460 was very popular in Ford trucks, Mercury luxury cars, and especially in all Lincoln models, it was an extremely rare option for the regular Ford line other than the towing equipped LTD station wagons, coupes, and sedans (or special order vehicles like this one). History of this Ford LTD I am the second owner of this LTD. The original owners were a nice couple who lived in Rockford Illinois. He was a Ford Salesperson at Rockford Ford at the time and she was a homemaker. When they decided to buy this LTD new, knowing it would be the last year of the large size 70s LTD body (before the smaller/lighter ’79 LTD arrived), they decided they didn’t need a car with every option or luxury, just a few very special options or rare choices that few people other than a Ford salesperson might be familiar with. Here is a list of the special order items on this vehicle: · 460 CID (“A” Code) / 4 BBL engine · Ford F150 rear end (including gears, axle, brakes, springs) · Cloth Seats (usually only came with more expensive option groups) o With split bench front seats o Power driver seat (works) o Fold-down front arm rests o **** "Sleep position” front passenger seat (see pics below, very rare option)***** · Intermittent wipers (working) · Digital Clock (just stopped last year, instructions readily available on internet to fix) · 8-Track AM/FM Radio (works) · Blue-center caps on standard LTD hubcaps (very rare) · Air-conditioning (works) · Dual remote controlled side mirrors · Bright Blue Glow Metallic Paint (fairly rare color) With these very specific and special order items checked off, they took delivery of their new LTD from Rockford Ford in early 1978. The husband drove the car daily to work for just two years at which point he unfortunately passed away in 1980. The wife kept and enjoyed their car, always having it serviced at her husband’s former employer, until 2002 when she unfortunately passed away. Not having any children, she chose to will the car to the Service Manager at the Ford dealer where her husband worked because he had known her husband and because “he always made sure the car was taken care of as my husband would have so the car could take care of me”. The Service Manager at Rockford Ford actually put the car on display in their showroom because it was in such nice condition. After one year, he put the car up for sale, but had never transferred the title from the original owner’s name (hence me being officially the second owner). When I bought the car in the early fall of 2003, the Service Manager picked me up from the Rockford, Illinois airport and brought me to the dealership for the delivery of my “new” bright blue Ford LTD. It was just like buying a new car. When we arrived, it was detailed and waiting in the delivery area with the other new cars being picked up by their new owners. I’ll never forget the looks on the faces of the other people buying cars that day. I received the same walk around, review of owner’s manual and features/options as they were, but my car was 25 years and 77,000 miles older than the 2003/2004 models leaving the dealership that day. Taking the car back home to Texas was just as I had hoped and expected. It drove, functioned, sounded, and even smelled like a new car. The only thing that didn’t feel “original” to me was the plastic covering the seats and carpeting, but that was okay as it was also probably one of the reasons the car was in such exceptional condition. I quickly removed all the plastic when I arrived home since I wanted to enjoy the cloth seats and soft carpet as Ford intended its owners to do. To this day, this vehicle drives with authority, it starts quick, runs smooth and fast, shifts quick and quiet, floats along at 70 mph at less than 2,000 RPMs while getting 18 MPG on the highway. This car accelerates, brakes, and corners almost as good some new cars, and better than many cars from the past 15 years even though it is now 37 yrs old. It drives tight, straight, has plenty of power and gets lots of attention from young and old alike. Lots of people like the color, most men appreciate or are in disbelief of the engine size, kids think it’s an old Cadillac, but those who really know what it is will always throw compliments, thumbs up, and gas station comments of years gone by. We have driven this car on cross-country trips without any issues. It loves the open road and city cruising. Did I mention the trunk holds a TON of stuff? - This vehicle has always been loved and garaged kept. - Much of the chrome trim (headlamp bezels, grill, wheel well moldings) look perfect, like NOS. Some chrome and stainless trim is slightly dulled or faded looking. - The underside of the car is very clean, no rust issues. The original owner averaged 3,080 miles/year in her 25+ years of ownership. I’ve averaged 2,491 miles/year in my 11+ years of ownership. - The tires and other maintenance items are in top condition (other than what is noted here). - There is one small rock chip on passenger side of windshield, which has been there since I purchased the car and has not turned into a cracked windshield. I almost never notice it’s there. - The rear main seal does leak slightly, but not enough to add oil between 3,000 mile oil changes. Other gaskets and seals seem fine. - Again, the clock has stopped spinning, but kept great time for 36 years and is worth having repaired in my opinion (usually just takes dis-assembly, cleaning, and lubrication). This has been and is a great car and we will miss it... We think this car deserves to continue its quality condition with a good home. They can ship anything, but, like eBay, I would recommend anyone make sure they check out who they are doing business with on U-Ship before committing to anything. Also, I do use U-Ship as both a customer and I am a register shipper with U-Ship so I can actually deliver this vehicle to the winning bidder from the DFW area on my flat-bed trailer for .70 cents/mile. Cash in person is acceptable. PayPal is acceptable for initial payment due within 48 hours of auction end. All checks (personal, cashier's, bank check, etc.) will need to clear and funds be confirmed before the vehicle can be released or delivered. Additional payments made through PayPal (beyond the initial payment) may be accepted. Inquire if interested. This auction is a binding contract. The winning bidder is committing to purchase the item. Winning and not completing the transaction is against eBay policy and will be reported as such. ...bla bla, but don't worry, ....this vehicle is really! nice and if you win and change your mind I can offer special considerations.
