Although it was my intention to get the car back in perfect shape, I never got around to completing the work. Now, I’ve decided to sell it because I have too many other projects and need to free up space in my garage (for my wife’s brand new car) before the winter snows come. In the following write up, I will do my best to provide a complete and honest description of this great and increasingly collectable British sports car. Body: The entire body is completely original, rust free and in great condition. It has no body filler or accident damage. The hood, doors and rear hatch are in great shape and they all open, close and latch properly. The bottom edge of the right rocker panel appears to have had some minor rust damage in the past, but it’s not visible unless you get under the car. The floor pans from front to back are in rust free and very solid condition. The firewall is in solid rust free condition. The driver’s side foot well had rust and was repaired with an aluminum patch panel. The right side foot well had some rust spots that were also patched. The repairs were done before I owned the car and continue to be in very solid shape today. After the deteriorated original carpeting and seats were removed, the interior floor was sanded and painted with gray metal primer. As the photos show, I never purchased or installed new carpeting, however a complete new carpet set is available from Victoria British for approximately $250. All glass is in very good condition. The front windows roll up and down perfectly and the rear windows latch as they should. The rubber seals around the windshield, doors and rear hatch are dried out but still functional. The windshield wipers don’t appear in the photos however they’re now back on the car. Frame/Chassis: The steel frame is in excellent rust free condition from front to back. It has no accident damage or repairs of any kind. Interior: The seats are original and black leather. They look very good considering their age, however they need new foam rubber padding. I haven’t bolted them down as yet because I expected to be installing new carpets. The black headliner is original and in very good condition with no rips or tears. The dashboard pad is a bit sun warped and has some minor cracks. Both sun visors are in great shape. The wood dashboard veneer is cracked and lifting in spots, however all of the gauges/controls/switches are original and in good condition. The steering wheel looks good but the varnish has come off in spots. The black vinyl door panels are original and still look very good. The interior door handles aren’t original but work well. The interior trim panels that go over the rear wheel arches were deteriorated and thrown away. Replacement panels are readily available from Victoria British. The car is equipped with a radio antenna, but there is no radio. Engine/Transmission/Clutch/Differential: The engine is in great mechanical condition. It runs strong and does not smoke, knock or leak a drop of oil or coolant. It has always started right up, run strong and idled smoothly. I recently started the engine but immediately noticed gasoline dripping from the rear carb. The twin carbs are the original SU units and now require cleaning or rebuilding before the engine will start and run as it should. The transmission is in good condition and shifts through all the gears properly. It doesn’t leak any oil. The clutch is in good shape as well. The clutch slave cylinder needs to be replaced or rebuilt because it has begun to leak fluid and not disengage the clutch properly. The rear differential operates without any problems. The rubber RotoFlex couplings are old and have a few cracks in them, however they still work well. Chrome: All of the chrome on the car is generally in good condition. The bumpers are original and look very nice, but they’re not perfect. The bumpers, mounting brackets and body mounts are rust free, very strong and in great condition. The chrome window frames look good but have a little pitting. Brakes/Suspension/Steering/Exhaust/Gas Tank/Etc. The brake system is complete however it needs to be checked and serviced before the car is driven on the road. The car has discs in front and drum brakes in back. The rubber seals in the calipers and wheel cylinders are quite old and dried out so they will need to be replaced. To my knowledge, all of the brake lines and hoses along with the master cylinder are in good condition. The suspension feels good and provides a very comfortable ride. Four new KYB shocks were installed less than 2500 miles ago. The rear transverse leaf spring was also replaced with a new one less than 2500 miles ago. The car steers accurately and doesn’t wander on the road at all. The entire exhaust system is in very good condition and emits a classic British sports car exhaust note. The gas tank was removed from the car, flushed out, repainted and reinstalled. The proper neoprene rubber fuel line leading from the tank to the fuel pump at the engine was removed because it was dried out and cracked. I temporarily replaced the fuel line with some inexpensive gas hose so I could start and drive the car in and out of my garage. The proper type of fuel line now needs to be installed. The battery was replaced with a new one from Auto Zone in May of this year. The ignition solenoid, ignition switch and starter was replaced two years ago. Paint: A previous owner had the car repainted in white enamel similar to the color it received at the factory back in 1969. The paint generally looks good today, however, there are some small nicks, blemishes and imperfections that were touched up over the years. Tires/Wheels All tires are worn and should be replaced before the car is driven on public roads. The steel wheels and chrome hubcaps are original and in excellent shape. Conclusion: This very original, unmolested and remarkably rust free Triumph GT6+ is a classic British coupe that doesn’t need a lot of work or money to become a fun, road worthy driver again.
