Vehicle Detail

1956 Chevrolet Belair Relisted because ebay doesn’t allow external links in description. Somehow it went through and wouldn’t allow me to lower reserve or add to the description. Questions were not getting to me through ebay. Reasonable reserve is set. Not quite NADA Low retail (10K), but very much lower than Average Retail (20K) Purchased in Texas in 2001, where it had been in storage since 1982. Previous owner purchased it in 1972. That’s as far back as I could trace it. I tried to keep as original as possible with the thoughts of doing a rotisserie restoration. Many of my friends coaxed me into keeping it stock. I’m happy I did. 5 years ago it was a 20 footer, Now a 40’. But still looks good. Interior is original and in fair condition. Seams are starting to unstitch and driver’s seat back and seat are worn. Covered bench with saddle blanket cover and original still in place. Daytona weave carpet installed 4 years ago, floors were rock solid. Headliner has holes, but will include new one. Piping around doors needs to be replaced as well as weather stripping. Driver’s side passenger flat glass is cracked as well as the windshield I replaced with less than 2000 miles ago. It is a “EZI” option car. One of the few options offered. Wiring is original and all gauges and dash lights were working until recently. I assume it’s oxidized connections or light switch needs to be cleaned. I added an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, (never trusted idiot lights). Upgraded to an electric wiper motor but needs to be wired. She is not without issues. Paint is very week. It was repainted sometime in the 70’s (guessing) and the repaint is almost dead. (Starting to peel in places) I’ve touched up areas with computer matched paint. It did take a hit in front of the passenger door at some point and fender replaced with a Copper/Almond color fender. I suspect it was repainted at that repair. Factory body filler and repaint filler is cracking. There are pin hole rust holes showing in rockers panels and the tail pan is rusting through. There is rust in the first couple of inches of the truck by lock/latch. Tire well had some pitting but was still solid. I drove the car from Lubbock to Salt Lake City after an oil change, new gas tank and tune up. Engine was very tired but managed freeway speeds. Soon after bringing home I located a 45K original 6 cyl from a 55 Chevy Belair, whose owner was updating to modern drive train. Photo of the engine as purchased shown in auction pictures. As well as the installation process, where I removed the entire front clip, cleaned and repainted. I still have original engine and will include with car if wanted. You must arrange shipping. Over 13 years, I have maintained and upgraded drive train and runs great. I would drive it cross country tomorrow, only keeping an eye on the oil level. It does use about a quart every 500 miles or so. It was used in several scenes in the movie “The World’s Fastest Indian” I declined using it on the salt flat scenes for a chase car. Wishing I hadn’t after, it was capable of the 90 mph needed to follow Anthony Hopkins on the motorcycle.Original drop out rear end was worn and howling and was replaced with 1962 Nova gears. I believe they were 3.08 ratio. (Fairly tall geared but great for touring) Still running original clutch, pressure plate and bearing from the 55 engine, with no issues. It is a 3 speed column shift car.All brakes hardware has been replaced. Hardware, wheel cylinders and hoses, as well as 2 new brake drums. All drum brake system and stops great. Added bearings to Idler arm and pitman arm and when radial tires are run at 40 psi, you can steer with one hand. Steering gear box is still tight. All moving parts in the front end have been replaced. Ball joints, tie rod ends and A arm bushings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has made several trips to California and another trip back to Texas and many 500 mile trips in the 13 years I have owned it. It has been my daily driver for all those years. You can fly in and drive home or I’ll drive it to you and you buy my flight back. I have many parts I've collected over the years (not included with auction) but can be negotiated after the sale. Including a 56, 265 w/cast iron powerglide. 283 built to resemble a 265 powerpack, with period correct 4 bbl carb. I’d planned to mate to the powerglide. Automatic steering column and speedo bezel. Motor and transmission mounts for the V8 conversion. Original radio and amp (unknown condition) 2 NOS water pumps. California one piece rear bumper, On and on. On Oct-21-14 at 15:40:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I think it's important to note: Today I had a avid collector come to look at the car, He pointed out that there are a few minor dents on the top of the car. May or may not be a concern. On Oct-21-14 at 17:03:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I have received several question from people who are bidding. Some emails are being returned. Please check you're ebay email addresses. On Oct-22-14 at 09:19:36 PDT, seller added the following information: This vehicle is for sale locally, I reserve the right to remove this listing at anytime. On Oct-24-14 at 09:33:26 PDT, seller added the following information: I've added one more photo of the wheel well. I have more of the tailpan and trunk floor issues, but can only send by message. The first 2" inches of the trunk has rust. most still in tact but both sides (right and left) have rust through. About 6" to 8". From the trunk latch to the rusted areas is solid, surface rust only.
