Vehicle Detail

This McLaren is an 89, it also has the late 89 standard 140 speedometer. 89s are near the end of McLaren production and share some things with the 90 that are not the same as the earlier cars- like the smoother ground effects and a bit more refinement in the console parts. This car runs and drives, it has all of the McLaren specific parts, the ones that are broken are inexpensive to replace, I have restored McLarens that were worse than this for fair money. If you’re going to restore a Fox Mustang convertible a McLaren is a wise choice. This car would be no more expensive to restore than a GT convertible and when complete the rarity will add significant value. I bought this car to restore for my wife. I own an 85 Capri and built an 88 for my mom so it was a natural for her. Due to an unfortunate car accident that could have easily taken her life anything smaller than a Sherman tank is unacceptable at this point. Original blue top and interior with Keewanu white paint. The car has had one repaint and some of the clear is peeling off. ALL of the original Mclaren parts are intact. The exterior parts are all very nice, interior needs a bit of work. Body is clean and relatively dent free- but there is rust on all four corners under the trunk. I have oversized metal patch panels for all four corners. The trunk lid is rusted through and should be replaced, I do not have one. The tonneau cover is very nice and virtually rust free. The bottom of the trunk is also very clean. The weatherstrip seam that holds the weatherstrip below the tonneau cover has some rust that is letting the weatherstrip go loose. The tops of the a-pillars have some light rust coming through the paint at the corners where the panels were put over the original corners above the hinges from ASC. Bottoms of the doors are clean, cowl is clean, radiator support is clean - floorpans are awesome. Top has had the left rear and rear center window torn out from being towed with a rip. If the rear panel was to be replaced it would leave a couple small pinholes in the front portion. The frame is nice and the latches, release, pull down motor and hinges all work. The engine starts and runs well. transmission shifts smooth and I drove the car 20 miles after purchase. Brakes need some work, they work well but are old and rotors are a bit rusty. Headers and h-pipe are good. The remainder of the exhaust was a cheap muffler shop replacement and is about done, it could use a cart back, I would not try to patch anything. Wheels are original, missing two of the center caps and they were replaced with some other Ford stuff, nice try but not really looking good. They have also been repainted over the original silver portions. Tires are five years old and still have plenty of tread, they are not dry or flat spotted. Interior is faded but all there. The door panel covers are a bit broken and the console lid is broken off. All can be repaired pretty easily. Check out the pictures, ask questions. I have a front bumper cover from a GT, factory fog lights and brackets, the bumper and supports as well as the patch panels for the rear trunk rain gutter area. Nothing else should be needed that cannot be purchased new in the process of the restoration. Thee exterior of this car is so clan and straight that it was an easy restoration for me, all of the metal work that needs to be done is concealed once the doors trunk etc are closed. I will assist in shipping, please feel free to ask questions . Feel free to call me at 561-312-7404 (Matt) I work days and on and off so if I don't answer please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
