Vehicle Detail

How would you like to own a classic Electron Blue 1999 or 2000 Honda Civic Si that hasn’t been stolen, crashed, raced, swapped, repainted or rebuilt? Then step right up. You have found your unicorn. You are bidding on an EM1 Civic Si that has been owned and driven by the wife of the editor of Grassroots Motorsports magazine since new. The car was picked up from the dealership the day it landed. Since that day, she has been the car’s only owner as well as its primary driver. Here are the highlights: The car has always been garaged at night. The car has never been wrecked or totaled. The car has never been repainted. The mileage is a tick over 100,000. The title is clean. The car has never been stolen or broken into. The engine and transmission are the original items and have never been cracked open. The air conditioning blows cold. In a world of modified Hondas, here’s one where the radio, seats and steering wheel are still original. The oil has been changed approximately every 3000 miles with Mobil 1. Genuine Honda oil filters have always been used. The car has never seen snow, having spent its entire life in sunny Florida. It has never been driven on the beach, either. The corners of the rear fenders are perfect. When’s the last time you saw that? The car has never been smoked in. The car was professionally detailed less than a month ago. No check engine light! The car has been maintained by the same independent shop for many years. The car’s primary mechanic has been the shop’s owner, not someone who will be working elsewhere next week. In 2012 the following items were replaced with genuine Honda parts: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, water pump and thermostat. A lower motor mount was replaced that year, too. In the past two months we have replaced the driver-side window regulator plus the battery. Soon after purchase, the car was slightly modified, being prepped for the then-new SCCA Street Touring autocross class. The following parts were professionally installed: Neuspeed-valved Bilstein shock absorbers plus a Comptech exhaust, header and rear anti-roll bar. Since then we have added Ground Control coil-overs with rates selected by the company’s owner. The car currently wears the 15x7-inch Rota wheels and BFGoodrich tires shown in the photos. The car comes with the stock parts shown, including the exhaust, exhaust manifold, wheels, tires, springs and shock absorbers. Yes, this actual car really was on the cover of Grassroots Motorsports magazine. This car is 15 years old, so it is not perfect: The rear bumper is starting to fade a bit. The power mirror switch recently broke--a $77 part. The window trim is nice but shows a small bit of aging. (Really, the car is way nicer than most.) The sunroof’s shade hasn’t aged as well as the rest of the interior. There’s a small ding on the front, right fender. I always wished that the front bumper fit better. Everything else is as shown in the photos. And, let’s be honest, after 15 years the few squeaks and rattles present are to be expected. We hate to part with this car, but its replacement—a new Civic Si—has arrived. We are not interested in trades, unless you are trading cash. Feel free to contact me with any questions, and more photos are available. Thanks for looking.
