Vehicle Detail

Great opportunity to own a rare 1965 Corvette. Original L79 (the original engine comes with the car). True Rally Red over the White/Red vinyl interior. Super rare color combination. Likely the original transmission but we are making no warranty that is the case. We've never checked it. The fully rebuilt short block comes with the car and it was built by the legendary Lamar Walden of Doraville Georgia. Check him out online - he builds world-class racing engines and is a seasoned (veteran) drag racer. The engine was never put back into the car. It's still wrapped in plastic. It was rebuilt in 1990 so the condition of the engine is unknown but it was packed in grease and wrapped tightly in plastic and has been sitting on a shelf in our garage since we bought the car. We have owned the car since April of 2006. This is a project car and it will need a full restoration. It does run and drive well and we have driven it as-is for many years. It currently is running with a 350 Chevrolet engine, date unknown and we've never been curious enough to want to know more. Restored, this is a very valuable L79 #s matching car (the engine is original, all the codes and numbers were checked back when we bought the car). The gentleman that we purchased the car from had owned it since the late 1980s (18 years when we bought the car). The car spent most of it's life in Georgia or Florida. We have never found any evidence of rust or corrosion. It's a solid old Corvette but has seen its better days cosmetically. It's a great driver, starts every time, smokes a little, runs, stops and steers well. This is by no means a statement of usability, but as it sits, the car does go down the road reasonably well. If you happen to notice the tachometer, it is not correct for the car. The redline is not correct for a 350 horse Corvette. There is a receipt in the piles of paperwork that will go with the car that shows the tach being replaced in the past (it stopped working) and was likely replaced with an incorrect unit. Bottom line is this. The car has good bones and is an original Rally Red over the rare White/Red interior. Not that many Corvettes built to those specs and tons of them that have been restored to replicate the color combination of this genuine example. That's why we bought it so many years ago. It was worth restoring. We are offering the car for sale at this time since we know that it is very unlikely that this car will be attended to for many more years and it needs to be restored by someone with the time and energy to do so. We are licensed dealers in the state of Wisconsin and as I stated, we've owned the car since early 2006, so if you think we are "flipping" it for a profit, that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, it's likely that will will loose money on the car since we've owned it for such a long time. Serious buyers please feel free to contact me at 920-664-1088 if you'd like to go over the car further. Tires kickers, dreamers and those of you who think we'll let it go for $25,000 need not waste your time, or mine. Desirable project Corvettes like this do not come to the open market very often, which is how this one ended up in our garage. We are classic car collectors and enthusiasts just like you and rarely do we even offer a car for sale. As such, we are the world's worst car dealers, great at buying and terrible at selling. This is your opportunity to bid/own a great Corvette that needs just about everything, but just about everything is already on the car – so it's a great place to start. See the photos of the piles of documents that go with the car that date back to about 1988. Especially the receipts from Lamar Walden for the engine rebuild. From a condition standpoint, the paint presents as a casual driver with several nicks and scratches. It was not an expensive paint job when it was applied but it remains glossy and in decent shape (for a driver). The interior is shot and needs just about new everything, so please bid accordingly. The engine bay will need to be restored and the original numbers matching engine needs to go back into the car. It is the short block only so you may need to source some L79 heads and intake. The chassis is in good shape but totally unrestored. We put new brakes on the car several years ago and they still work fine. Lots of money has been spent keeping this old Corvette on the road. Mechanically, it remains in good to fair condition, but by no means is that a statement of mechanical fitness. While we've owned the car, it's never left us stranded and we drive it occasionally since we never needed to worry about the next scratch, there are plenty already on the car. The chrome and other brightwork is fine as a driver but by no means is it worthy of a show car. Some of it may useable and presentable with some buffing. The headlamp bucket have a wider gap that they probably should which indicates that the front end may have been bumped at some point. They still work okay. Most of the lights and switches work but we have not tested them lately so we won't suggest that "everything works" because we're pretty sure it doesn't. Like we stated (several times) – this is a full project Corvette so don't expect it to be anything more than that. Surely as-is, where is, no warranty expressed or implied. The winning bidder, if we get there, we also be charged our standard dealer fee of $175 which the State of Wisconsin requires for us to handle the transfer of the title and other paperwork. The car remains on its Florida title from when we purchased the car in 2006.On Sep-20-14 at 15:01:52 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: All the bonding strips are in place and the doors open and close well. The door gaps are also very good. The body is also considerably straight for a Corvette. The miles are believed to be actual for the car, but there is no information supporting that other than what we were told when we bought it. The service paperwork supports the mileage claim. –MM
