Vehicle Detail
With 24 hours left we thought we'd encourage the 30* watchers and 300+ viewers by offering an even greater value by dropping the price from $8,500.00 to $7,900.00. That's down to the lower of the KBB and NADA values and those don't take into account the extra set of wheels and tires. Again, it is highly unlikely you will find another W8 with such low mileage, free from any rust, and cared for as gently as this one has been. If you are looking for a W8 and miss this opportunity, be prepared to join those who spend weeks and months into the future thinking of how you sat in front of your computer just a click away from taking possession of a car that is very, very rare indeed!See 3 pages and 85 large photos at this Smugmug hyperlink:http://cieplymaavelous.smugmug.com/Other/2003-Passat-W8-6-Speed-4/43738191_kFWHkF#!i=3470232153&k=5HbmrJn JUST ADDED PICS OF UNDERSIDE OF CAR (sorry only had cel phone with me when had opportunity to get under it as Belle Tire was checking tires and adding Nitrogen). That W-8 nomenclature describes an all-aluminum 4.0-liter engine composed of two narrow-angle (15 degree) V-4 cylinder banks joined at a 72-degree angle to form a double-vee. Two balance shafts help to quell the vibes that arise from the flat (180 degree) crank chosen for the even power impulses it allows. With this novel system, VW has packaged a 4.0-liter, eight-cylinder power plant in a compact unit producing 270 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 273 pound-feet of torque at a mere 2750 rpm, along with a mellifluous engine note that flutters melodically at moderate revs but barks like a small-block Chevy at full throttle. VW hooked this sophisticated W-8 to a six-speed manual which, in turn, is connected to an all-wheel-drive mechanism called 4MOTION. The system features a Torsen center differential that allows a 50/50 torque allocation until one axle begins to slip, whereupon the differential sends more torque (up to 67 percent) to the axle with the greater adhesion. This car was purchased for my son as he was working in Colorado this summer and was originally purchased new in Utah. It has lived a life free from rust. I just drove it back to Michigan the day before these pictures were taken on 18 August, so you know you are seeing the car as it is today and not months, or years ago! 81,000 miles, a rare 6 speed Manual of which only 424 were imported to the US, 4.0 liters of W8 technology and innovation and the handling and security of 4Motion. TWO sets of BBS wheels (17” BBS Madras, and 18” BBS VW Huffeisen "Huffs" (euro name translated is Detroit). Mobil 1 0-40, K&N oil filter, and Bosch Icon wiper blades are all fresh and new This car is 11 years old and does have wear and tear appropriate to those years and miles, but as you can see by the photos, you really have to look for it! We have attempted to photograph any imperfections (see Smugmug hyperlink). There is a Volkswagen dealership (and many fine independents) in town and I’m happy to work with a prospective buyer in taking the car in for a pre-purchase inspection at your expense so that you can have a professional detail the condition for you. My knowledge of the car is based on my son’s summer with it and my experience of driving it back from Colorado. It has performed flawlessly. While the dent in the trunk is one obvious imperfection, the good news is that we have a matching color, original paint, 2003 trunk lid which comes with the car. The others are few, some chips, scrapes, scratches. The fuel gauge is not working, (easy fix with a plug-and-play module that sits under the spare tire - VW dealer wants $290.00 for a new one we have used the odometer to track when it is necessary to fill up. The multi function display is works, but the screen is too dim to be useful. Both sets of BBS wheels have some road rash on two of the wheels as you can see in the photos. The positives far outweigh any negatives! I doubt that someone looking for one of these cars can find one so like new: rust free, with wonderfully low mileage and in such excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically. (Here again I’m happy to work with you in setting up a pre-purchase inspection as I am not technically qualified to comment on mechanical condition and can share only what we have observed.) I always rate a rust free car high above any other consideration as, by comparison, everything else is easy to repair for someone seeking a classic or collectable car! I will apologize for the tires, they are brand new ...but not the “kind” of tires one would want to find on this car. Although we have no complaints with how they perform). My son is in high school and went to Colorado to work. He simply elected to replace the tires with some that would assure the car’s utility and best fit his budget. The extra set of BBS wheels (which sell for over $400.00 each through VW), have 225 40ZR 18 Falken Ziex ZE512 tires on them with about 12,000 miles. Unfortunately they are worn more on the inside edge, and would probably produce some noise or vibration. There is definitely life left in the second set of tires if you are not sensitive to that. KBB shows a value of $8,680.00. NADA shows a value of $7,900.00 but that is without an extra set of BBS wheels and does not add value for the fact that this is a rare 6 speed manual. Buyer required to provide payment by certified or bank check within 48 hours of end of auction. Buyer is also responsible for pickup or for arranging shipping. I will work with you on coordination with the shipper at this end, but do need coordination and communication so that we are sensitive to my schedule as well as yours. We do have a large parking lot nearby which sometimes assures a lower shipping charge than pick up at a residence. To be clear, we are looking for a great and welcoming new home for this used vehicle; and in respect of your time and ours ask you understand that we are selling a used vehicle, as is, with no returns accepted. Please come see and enjoy it, have it inspected, request additional pictures, and generally be prepared to rejoice in your find! I’m available to discuss the car and answer any questions you may have. Naturally I want the buyer to be thrilled with their purchase! Based on my experience this is a terrific opportunity for that individual who has been searching for a 6 speed manual W8. I’ll look forward to speaking with you!
