Vehicle Detail
1949 Plymouth Deluxe 2-door fastback sedan; 217 CID flathead six, three-speed column shift manual, original 6V electrical system throughout. Unmolested original example with nice patina outside: Color is New Brunswick Blue (dark navy blue) with all chrome and stainless present and in good condition. Glass all good, interior is excellent. Good whitewall tires (80%+ tread) with matching spare and multiple sets of wheel covers/hubcaps. Only rust of note is some surface scale on the trunk floor due to a leaking weatherstrip. Car fires right up, starts, runs and drives beautifully, shifts smoothly through all gears, steers with all the confidence of a ’49 Plymouth (this ain't a Lotus) and brakes straight and true. Generator correctly charges the battery and the battery stays charged. Headlights/dash lights work and car has period-style aftermarket turn signals wired to the rear for safer driving. Recent work completed includes water pump, coolant flush/fill, oil change, carburetor rebuild, tune-up with Pertronix ignitor replacing the points, original-style muffler and tailpipe, rebuilt brake master and rear shoes/wheel cylinders/hoses (fronts had been done relatively recently), complete lube service including gearbox and rear axle. Mileage is 64k and is titled as original but I have no way of knowing for sure. Clear Michigan title in my name. What it needs: Speedometer cable; windshield wiper arms not on car (passenger side spindle appears to be missing). Non-critical electrical items are finicky – radio turns on but doesn’t play, dome light doesn’t work, horn relay clicks but horns don’t sound, that sort of thing. Driver's side window needs guidance when raising and lowering. Drips various fluids from various places but never enough to need topping off. If you want a show winner then it needs paint and details – if you’d like an enjoyable '40s-era driver with wonderful patina then turn the key and go. Located in SE Michigan/Detroit suburbs. $500 deposit via Paypal due within 24 hours of auction end; balance due within 7 days. Inspections/test drives welcome. On Sep-03-14 at 18:10:16 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Several folks have asked about the headliner so I added a shot to the photo gallery; it's in near perfect condition. On Sep-06-14 at 13:59:34 PDT, seller added the following information: To be perfectly clear on the condition of this car: To the best of my knowledge it's not been updated or redone, and that's what the previous owner told me. I am not a '40s Plymouth expert, but I've owned and enjoyed the car as-is for the past year. I cannot confirm that it's as it left the factory, however, so please bid accordingly. I'm stating the condition to the best of my knowledge, but if there are specific requirements you want to see on the 1949 Plymouth you want to buy, please get in touch and ASK ME. I'll be happy to send a photo or find a label for you or whatever to help you be comfortable with your purchase.
