Vehicle Detail
1980 Volkswagen Vanagon Campmobile Van CamperRiviera Style It's time for us to sell our camper. The odometer reads 105935, however, the odometer cable was broken and replaced. Very conservatively, no more than 2000 miles were driven during that time. We purchased the camper in July 2003 in Colorado. It had no rust because, reportedly, it was garaged parked when not in use. We were also told that the engine had been rebuilt at one point. It now has a few rust places that need attention that the pictures show. The paint is a cream yellow that is not original. The original color was a kind of rust color. Now that some of the cream overcoat is peeling, those spots deceivingly look like rust. Also, we primed some areas. That is the grey areas. We have replaced many parts in the last 11 years. Some of the major works done are: front suspension rebuilt, brakes rebuilt, custom exhaust, alternator replaced (recently), new shocks all around, new fuel pump, the automatic main/ auxiliary battery charging relay has been replaced. There is a lot more in the mechanical and electrical categories. The tires are in great condition and are Yokohama Van design 6 ply which improves handling. Also, the stove is new as is the radio/cd player and speakers. The refrigerator works as designed. As you can see from the photos the seats are original and are also in great shape. The Pop Top canvas and screen have been patched. Now---Although the camper is running fairly strong, we have been told that the engine needs major attention. The compression on 3 cylinders is on the low side of acceptable---around 90psi--- and the 4th cylinder is 60 psi. Also the oil leaks some. We only have 1 cushion for the upper bunk. There isn't an auxiliary battery installed but the ACR (automatic charging relay) is in place.
