Vehicle Detail
It pains me to list this, but I have a newborn arriving in a couple of weeks, and the additional money from the sale of this vehicle would be a welcome addition while my wife is off of work. This has been my daily summer driver for the last 3 years, and I had it shipped from California where it has spent it's entire life. I will list all of the pros and cons below as well as recent work on the car- Pros/Modifications/FeaturesCalifornia Car, NO rust typical of almost every bug in the Midwest. Original pan and heater channels in excellent shape. Has never seen a winter (always in rented storage) and has not seen rain since I have owned it (garage kept).Working metal factory sliding moon roofCal-look body work- All metal shaved and filled, T-bars for bumpers, rear apron filled/replaced (no exhaust holes), shaved turns from the front fenders, two-tone blue/silver paint job.Cal-look features- Bullet turn signals in the front, one piece windows on the doors, and rear pop out windows in the rear. Interior (panels, roof) is two-tone plush with vinyl seating. Seats were replaced with low backs from earlier year, and lap belts. Empi 8 Spoke RimsLowered Front beamAir Shocks (not air ride) in rear, adjustable with valve located in rear left wheel wellFront disc brake conversion with good brakes, and rear rubber hoses replaced within 200 miles (brakes are strong)Dual Kadron 44 carbs on an unknown (but large) motor. I havent taken this apart to determine engine size, but the case is a 1600dp, but there is no way this is a 1600dp factory setup. There is quite a bit of power from this motor, but since I havent taken it apart, I am listing it as a 1600dp motor.Electronic Pertronix ignition, no messing with and adjusting points.Recent oil change, valve adjustment, carb sync, and timing performed (within 200 miles).Smaller Grant steering wheel (way more fun to drive with the smaller wheel)Bugpack merged exhaust/header systemHurst Short-throw ShifterGood tires all the way around, Nankangs on the front, Kumhos on the back.ConsBattery may be on the way out. If I let the car sit for a week at a time (which is rare), the battery needs to be charged for about 30 seconds just to top it off to turn it over. It is a Walmart battery from 2011, so it should be okay, but I have had new flaky batteries before.Car is a "10 footer". The car looks great until you get in from 10 feet and you can see various nicks, scratches, and small dents. The restore was probably done on this car over 5-6 years ago (before I bought it).Window felt around the doors needs to be replaced. It is either cracking or missing, depending on the area of the window. This isn't costly, but not something that affected me since it is only a summer driver in nice weather.Battery tray was replaced at some point with new metal. (no rust currently)Windshield wiper motor needs wired up. When I purchased this car, it was a wiring nightmare. It wasn't hacked, just hooked up completely incorrect. I re-ran all of the wiring and hooked up everything except the horn (couldn't find the schematics for the Grant wheel) and the windshield wipers. The interior is nowhere near perfect. While it looks fairly nice, it was installed quite awhile and shows small wear, nicks, tears, etc. throughout.Likes to leave a little spot of oil when parked (a very common air cooled VW signature, LOL)I am sure there are other cons, and I encourage any potential buyer to come and inspect the vehicle in person. I am trying to be as honest as possible and not have amnesia about anything.Overall, this is a fun, fast Cal-look bug that is super fun to drive. It most likely wont win any shows as it certainly has its cosmetic flaws, but if you are looking for a rust free bug in the Midwest, this one is going to be one of the most rust free bugs you are going to find. I encourage any potential buyers to come by and check the car out in person, as there is no way to show every detail of the car via pictures on Ebay.
