Vehicle Detail
Thank you for viewing this auction for my Porsche 911s Targa! I have owned this car for the last 8 years and really enjoyed it. I purchased it from a family friend who owned it for about 20 years before that. During that time it was always stored in a dry garage in winters and driven for a few weeks each summer. While not in perfect shape, it is a fun little car for summer adventures, or could make a nice project for someone looking to restore her back to perfection. Please read this description in full before bidding. I have tried to provide all of the information that I have, so that you can make an educated purchase. If you have additional questions, I will respond to inquiries promptly. Good luck! OVERVIEWThe Porsche 911 is a two-door, high performance sports car made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a distinctive design, rear-engine and independent rear suspension. It is one of the oldest sports coupe nameplates still in production and was named one of the top 5 cars of the 20th Century. 1977 TARGA MODEL1974-1977 Porsche 911's are showing strong gains in value and have achieved collector car status. These cars maintain a lot of the classic early 911 “narrow body” good looks. They are still light and nimble and can be purchased for a fraction of the price of the 1973 and earlier cars in similar condition. CIS is a great fuel injection system and these cars get good gas mileage and they start easily when cold. From 1976 on, Porsche started galvanizing 911 bodies and vastly improved the undercoating systems, which makes these cars much less rust-prone than earlier 911's. Impact bumpers make these models less fragile and prone to costly damage. CONDITION Exterior: All of the body panels are in great shape with no major dents or waves. The seams between the panels are straight and consistent, indicating that no impacts have occurred. The paint is generally in good condition, but it is not original. The first color was a bright green that can be seen under the floor mats and in a few small chips here and there. The paint is very-slightly evenly faded and no longer a deep gloss. All of the glass is in excellent condition. All lights are clear, functional, and not cracked. The front bumper has a dent on the underside. The Targa top is functional, but has three small (repaired) holes. Interior: The dashboard is in great shape with no cracks or discolorations. The visors are present and in good condition. The front seats are free of tears and have only a small amount of wear. The driver's seat is missing the recline lever. The gauges illuminate properly. The tachometer and speedometer function properly. The odometer and trip meter do not turn over. The radio is a cassette version that is non-functional. The back seats are in very good shape. Mechanical: The car was serviced by a Bosch-Certified Mechanic this month. The starter and fuel pump were replaced. The car starts and idles reliably. The car shifts through all gears smoothly. The brakes function properly. The emergency brake does not engage. The car was fitted with new Hankook Optimo tires in 2012 that have only a few hundred miles on them. The airbox has a pop-off valve installed. When under load (going up hills) the car will occasionally back-fire and miss for a while. My mechanic told me, after checking the car, that a new set of spark plugs and wires would very likely correct this problem. SUMMARY This is a great little sports car to drive. I have really enjoyed taking it out in the summers for the past 8 years. There is nothing like a 911 with the top down! This is a classic car and you should understand what you are buying... a lot of fun, but also some maintenance and TLC. Porsche's roots are in racing, after all! I recently drove the car 70 miles with no problems, but if you are bidding from a long distance, I would recommend arranging a trailer to bring her safely back home.
