Vehicle Detail
800x600 Hello All. This is my 1973 Yankee Z 500 project motorcycle that I am listing at auction I purchased the bike from Rick McKinnon, former employee of the Yankee Motor Company. Rick had sold me the bike after running it several seasons in a vintage road racing series in the Seattle area, and I have a folder of paper work from Rick that goes with the sale of the bike. Please visit the Yankeetwin site for additional details about the Yankee Z and a picture of Rick with the rest of the Yankee staff. The bike comes with two engines. The first one, #11-00-652 looks to be complete except for the carbs and exhaust. The crank in this engine is set up to fire as a twin. The second engine # 11-00-055 is missing multiple items, mainly the ignition system, clutch basket, the clutch cover, and has a piece of the case broke off where the clutch cable mounts (see pictures). The crank in this engine is set up to fire both cylinders at the same time as a big single. There is a set of 75 Ossa Phantom AS250 top ends that have been machined and fitted to the cases that are included, and seen in the pictures with the complete engine. I had plans of sending that entire set up to Alex Snoop to be put together and run the bike in a vintage race class at Loudon, NH but I never got there. The bike has had several modification as seen in the pictures, everything on the bike has been drilled and safety wired, the original foot pegs have been raised up for cornering, and the forks have been modified to dampen on both compression and rebound. In stock configuration the forks only dampen on compression. I have many duplicate, and several NOS parts that I purchased to replace some items that were modified, or exchanged out for racing, and everything you see in the pictures is included The wheels have been changed with the front being swapped out for a period correct 18 inch rim with "Twin Pull" brakes and the rear was replaced with a wider 18 inch shouldered Akront for a wider tire. The bike is currently mocked up with a set of clip ons, wheels, suspension, stock tank, and a stock seat. I was at the point where I was going to install the engine and start to fit a set of pipes but that is as far as I got. This bike is one of only 760 ever made and is a very unique piece of American motorcycle history. It was also the first production motorcycle to ever come equipped from the factory with a rear disk brake. Please contact me at 617-913-5540 if you have any questions. The bike is located in South Eastern Massachusetts, and I can crate the entire package, or you can have it picked up in boxes. There is no title, Bill of sale only.
