THE OVERVIEW Offered for an appreciating new owner AT NO RESERVE [or you may choose to hit the LOW buy-it-now feature BEFORE the first bid is placed] is this rare classic 1981 BMW 528i E12-chassis sedan!! Finished in what appears to be mostly all original "ASCOT GREY" metallic paint over saddle tan leather interior, this classic BMW has been driven a mere 119,500 miles since purchased new here in Northern California. Yes the odometer still works! It sports a nice running 2.8 liter 170 horsepower inline six cylinder engine mated to a rare and desirable 5 speed manual transmission. Stopping power is provided by four wheel disc brakes. This car features original 14" turbine-style factory wheels with good Michelin rubber [and matching spare], all working electric windows, electric sunroof, original leather seats, real wood trim and is being sold with a clear and clean California title. This is a great find here for way less than the cost of the sales tax alone on a three year old 535! PLEASE CALL 650-307-2251 FOR QUESTIONS, TEST DRIVES AND/OR MECHANICAL INSPECTIONS. ALSO PLEASE EMAIL ME FOR MANY MORE DETAILED PHOTOS THE BODY AND TRIM As I hope is articulated in the many photos here, the exterior of this 1981 BMW is in what appears to be in all original exterior condition and still somewhat presentable. The top surfaces are worn/faded, there is a scrape/dent on the right rear door and quarter panel, some ugly scrape/unfinished body work on the front part of the hood,, missing rear vent louver and 528i badge along with worn/missing BMW logo center caps on the wheels. All of these pieces are readily available. The good news is that this 30+ year-old classic is in nearly perfectly rust-free condition throughout! THE INTERIOR The interior of this non-smoker car is in good VERY original condition overall. The factory carpets show some sun fading, the radio faceplate is awol, the dash shows cracking, the sunroof motor works but currently stuck [it has not been used in years]. All of the windows work as do the horn blinkers, gas gauge and lights. I have not bothered trying out the a/c. The leather shows signs of cracks and tears on the passenger seat as well as seam splitting and dry tearing on the top of the back seat leather. The door panels are nice and original with dry deterioration of the real wood pieces. THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE This classic BMW starts and run well, shifts smoothly, the suspension is quiet and free of any major clunks or rattles. The exhaust system is quiet though needs proper hanger install. The car revs well through the gears and tracks down the road fairly well. It has been out of use for about 5 years so I see it as a light project while you drive, complete and enjoy it. THE DETAILS AND $$$$$ 1.
