For sale is my beloved 1961 BMW R50S. I bought this beautiful bike when I was 20 yrs old. I'm 62 now and am only selling her because she deserves a new owner who can afford to restore her to original condition.She was purchased from the Georg "Schorsch" Meier dealership. She still sports the dealership badge on the front fender.The front fender also sports four stickers from some of the european countries visited by the original owner who picked her up at the Munich dealership and then toured europe on her.She is all there... I haven't had her running in the last 10 years or so. Buuuuttt she has never spent even a night outsideexcept when either me or the previous owner were touring on her. The last 25 years she has been in my heated shop. I over filled the oil reservoir and kicked her over every month or so. As I'm sure you know if you are looking at this listing , an R50S is a rare find ...kind of....There were only 1634 of them made. Despite her age,the tins is virtually perfect. Solid,.....only slight surface rust anywhere .There is one slight dent on the top of the front fender between the forks(can be seen in the pictures) Her fuel tank doesn't have a single dent that I can find and still has the red coating on the inside. The exhausts headers are solid, including the cross over but the mufflers are shot. (the weren't original anyway) . She has the proper carbs, the proper rear end 25/7, the proper valve covers...(one of them is scuffed up because the bike fell over once due to soft hot asphalt)She has the weinman rims (but her tires are old and her innertubes are flat). She is missing the small hydraulic dampening cylinder...I removed it in about 1975 on the advice of a local BMW dealer/mechanic.Wish I had it back!!!!!.I also lost the headlight trim and glass because she wore a Windjammer Fairing from 1975 to 2013. I have replaced those however. Her schorschmeier seat would need to be recovered and the lock on her gas cap doesn't function either.I have the original bar end turn signals which will be included in the sale. I also have the original Denfield luggage rack which also is included.I recently replaced both throttle cables with their rubber covers. She has 59268 KM on her which means about 36823 miles not many miles but time to get the slingers cleaned. I took her to a huge local BMW dealer,but they said that I would be foolish to try to get her running without first cleaning the slingers.I tested the compression and got her up to 120 psi cold. She has great spark on both plugs which of course are new. As she sits there in my shop. front and center, dusted off. cleaned up, I really do not want to part with such a beautiful piece of history and engineering.However what she really needs is an owner who can care for her and invest whatever is necessary to make her whole again.By the way... she comes with the "Barrington Manual". After reading it , I was convinced not to attempt a rebuild myself. Feel free to ask questions, there is nothing more I enjoy talking about. I would Like a $500.00 deposit thru paypal within 3 days. This deposit could be refundable only if the buyer ,after personal inspection at my shop, felt that I had misrepresented this BMW motorcycle.The balance of the payment is due within 7 days of the end of the auction. The payment shall be made in certified funds as agreed to by the seller, however the vehicle and the title shall not be transferred untill the cash is in hand.Shipping and crating and all expenses related thereto are solely the buyers responsibility. I will assist as I can to provide access.
