More pics can be found here - Here is a link to a test drive video - It's worth watching so you get an idea of how it starts, how it shifts, how it runs, etc. This 1966 Porsche 912 (5 speed, 4 cyl, duel 2bbl carb) was my dads (step-dads) He purchased this car in 1968 and has owned it ever since. My dad passed away last year and my mom has decided to part ways with the Porsche, I've taken on the sale for her. 2nd owner car (purchased in 1968) Motor & transmission rebuilt in the 1980's (It's a 5 speed) Car was painted and interior replaced in the early 1990's 47k miles on the odometer(most likely is actually 147k miles, but I cannot verify this) This is a California car, it has spent it's life garaged. Title is clean and clear, currently registered in California with black plates. I've included a couple old pictures of the car when it was being repainted, you'll notice a dent in the left rear quarter panel. I've taken some shots inside the left rear quarter so you can see the repair work. In my opinion the work is great, the man that did the bodywork was considered the "best guy in the county" when the repairs were done. The paint has held up quite well, especially since it's remained garaged. The interior work is in good shape too, again, garaged. I had the car towed to my shop (were I work), I installed an interstate battery, added some gas, replaced the motor oil, cleaned the points, & fired it up. It ran for a bit then pulled some debris into the idle jets. I cleaned the jets, replaced some fuel line and added a filter. It runs quite nicely now. I checked the transaxle fluid and took it on a little test drive. The shift linkage was really loose. I ordered and installed a bushing kit and it tightened up the shifting nicely. In my test drive I noticed that the horn & the Tach doesn't work. I don't see any turn signals working either. The headlights worked. The transmission worked well, the syncros felt good in all the gears, even the first gear downshift. I heard really light pinging and backed the ignition timing off a little. The brakes work, but they don't feel great, I don't currently drive any vehicles with manual brakes so it's been a bit, but it seems like they should work a little better. The brakes do lock the wheels up in gravel when applied (I have not tried to lock up the brakes on pavement) The steering was decent, a little loose, but nothing that scared me. The idle speed was low so I raised it, then the idle speed was a little high so I lowered it. I put the car up on the rack to check for rust, I see a panel has been replaced around the drivers feet, it's not a professional installation. Other than that panel and a couple pan spots I've shown in the pics, this is a rust free car. You'll notice that in one of the front wheel wells I'm pulling off some flaking "undercoating", under that undercoating the car looks good. With only a small amount of work, you could be driving this car safely down the road. At this point, it's really not been saftey inspected, only enough for small test drives and repairs. This is NOT that kind of car that you can fly out and drive home, it's just not ready for that. But with a couple dozen hours of work, you could have this ready to safely drive, maybe less time, maybe more, but I think 10-20 hours is pretty reasonable to make sure the brakes are safe, fix any lighting issues and just give it general once over. My dad drove it for years, it's just that it's sat for the last ten, and the five prior to that really did not see much road time and no maintenance. Still, this is an OLD car, it will always need something fixed....always.....so please keep that in mind. I prefer questions though the eBay message system, but you text them to me as well at 707-350-7755. Please...ask questions, anything, it won't bother me. This is a big purchase and I'm not a professional Porsche guy, you can teach me with your questions. I'm sure that I've missed some defects, I'm sure that there are plenty of guys out there that know a lot more than me about 912's, ask away, lets make sure this is the car you want before you buy it. (since all sales are FINAL) Will I accept an offer? - Depends on what your offer is and how long it's been for sale. I think I've priced it reasonably, but I've got "best offer" for a reason, in case my pricing is wrong. Will I assist with delivery to a port? - Maybe... depends on the sale price and your willingness to compensate me for my time. I live 2+ hours from the closest port so it's a whole day for me to get this to a shipper for you. I'm also selling this for family, I'm not raking it in here. Please keep that in mind. Can you drive this car home? - NO!!! Not unless you live in Lake County, California OR you are a professional Porsche mechanic and know exactly what tools and spares to bring...... That means 99.9% of us, cannot drive this home. Is this car restored? - Hmmmm.......I guess it depends on your definition of a restoration - you might call it an old restoration, but it's definatly not a fresh restoration. Will I accept a check for the balance? Yes...... but only cashiers checks and they MUST completely clear before the car is removed from my custody. This could mean a 30 DAY HOLD... Holy cow you say! Yes, cash is much better. Will I accept a paypal payment for the balance? Yes..... but only if you are willing to pay for the fees accociated with the paypal transaction..... Meaning this...I expect cash for the balance, but I'll take most any form of payment as long as it clears and it does not cost me anything. Will I accept returns? Abosofreakinglutly NOT.... I've owned and worked on old VW's my whole life, seems fun at first, then you end up fixing stuff constantly.....no no no.... don't bring it back to me when you decide you bite off more than you can chew.... Be sure you want THIS car...... This baby is sold AS-IS with no warrenty expressed or implied. I am fond of my perfect feedback on eBay, but I will NOT screw with my moms money just to save my perfect score. If I cannot make you happy, I'll just have to live with your unhappyness for a year on my ratings. So PLEASE Ask questions! I want you to be happy with the purchase, lets do it the right way and make sure it's the right car before you buy it.
