Vehicle Detail
Vintage 1939 Chevrolet School Bus This rare, 3 window Chevy School bus was used by the Sisters School District No. 6 in Sisters, Oregon where it was put in to service when new in 1939. It was used there for some time before it was retired from public use and purchased by a private forestry contractor. The new owner used the bus to transport workers to various job sites in the Oregon wilderness. Ultimately, it was parked in LaPine, Oregon where it has sat for several years. The bus has a hard to find, 3 window bus body made by the Superior Body Co. of Lima, Ohio. The seat configuration consists of 5 seats. Two rows of two and a fifth seat sits sideways in the back, on the passenger side. It doesn't appear to have ever had a similar seat on the drivers side but, its possible. The five seats are complete with top and bottom cushions, in their original leather upholstery. The drivers seat is also present. All of the seats will need reupholstered. I have the original speedometer and tach for the dash. All of the steel headliner pieces are also intact. The body of the bus is in relatively good shape. The majority of the rust that it does have is confined to the lower portions of the body, in the flat sheet metal. All of the side windows and frames are present. The rear emergency door opens and closes like it should. The front door needs work. The rear section of the two piece door has a considerable amount of rust and will need to be rebuilt. The front half isn't bad. The driver operated lever mechanism is present and also works. The front of the bus is standard body parts for 1939-40 Chevrolet. The only panel missing is the drivers side, lower hood panel. The fenders, hood and grill are present. The front bumper of the bus is incredibly straight. The rear bumper is also present. I do not have the headlights for it. There is no motor, transmission, radiator or associated parts in the bus. They were apparently pulled out long ago. 131" wheelbase, 17 feet overall The title application is currently being processed by the State of Oregon. It should arrive in the next few weeks. As so, I am selling the bus with a good, clear title. The bus is located near Hope, Idaho 83836. Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. I can have this bus shipped for $2.00 per mile. Or, I am willing to work with your shipper and assist in loading the bus.Payment is due in full within 5 days of auction end by cash, certified check or wire transfer.
