Vehicle Detail
I've had this car since June 2010 and 236,000 miles. All receipts since then are included, and most before that. The engine stopped last week; I had it towed to my mechanic and he wrote on the invoice "found cams starting to seize and bottom end knock, pressure buildup in crank case, and heavy oil consumption, requires full teardown for proper diagnosis, recommend rebuild." So I am hoping to sell to a mechanic who has an engine and can continue this car's life. The MPGs per tank I've experienced range from 39 to 56, and it averages around 44. It will soon need brakes (warning squeal beginning), the radio stopped working (might be the battery behind it-- brochure included), rear shocks are a bit soft, one tailight is out, and the fuel pump at idle misses a bit (been that way for two years-- was on my list to fix). Seats are okay, with no tears but some water stains (I'm a surfer and put my board and wetsuits inside). Headliner was falling, I tried to glue it with 3M, did not hold, so I stapled it up. Glovebox handle broken off (wife) but still openable. Cupholders okay. Good clutch and tranny. Always ran at proper temperature. Tires and wheel covers good. Tracks straight. Steering tight, done at 294k. Front shocks good. All gauges work. All lights work. Front headlights, when I bought the car, are some kind of aftermarket where the normal beams are like daytime lights and the high beams are the ones to use at night. It has a 5 brakelight system. Exhaust system good, fixed at 298k. AC charged at 290k. Chassis is clean, no rust. When I bought it, I got underneath and some of the round fasteners had broken, so I made some out of plastic and force-fitted them on; they are still holding. I also used a can of rustproofing underneath. I'm not a mechanic so not sure if the following applies after a new engine, but the timing belt and other engine work like gaskets, hoses, waterpump, intake manifold, egr valve cooler was done around 280k (receipt shows date not mileage but between 267 and 290k). Tie rods done at 254k. Wheel bearings at 251k. Remanufactured alternator at 236k. In other words, I kept this car in good condition-- it was my daily driver. Body is good. There are 3 small rust spots, 1 around the rear license plate, one at bottom of driver's rear door, one along driver side molding. The black paint is not perfect but shiny, as the pics show. The car is a 10 foot looker. I added vortex strips to the trunk lid (my Dad was an aerodynamics engineer), and there is a bit of chrome customizing on the car. I added the side chrome strips because the driver side one hides a paint imperfection. When I got the car, the dash info LEDs would go out once in a while. I researched this and found that, with TDIs, there is a leak from the coolant tank that runs down the wires near it and can cause a short. The fix is to drill a small weep hole near this area. I did so and the problem stopped. Hoping someone will be able to use this. Please email with any questions. I have a 100 percent Ebay rating mostly with bicycles; this is the first time I have sold a car. As is, where is, no warranty, no returns. Pics show condition. The car obviously will have to be towed or flatbedded away. Safe driving, John
