The car was named after the city of Turin, Italy (Torino, in Italian). The Torino was initially an upscale version of the intermediate sized Ford Fairlane, which Ford produced between 1962 and 1970. In 1971 the Fairlane name was dropped altogether and all Ford intermediates were called Torino. The Torino was introduced in 1968 as an intermediate family car. However, it soon became apparent that this model was also easily transformable into a viable muscle car. Although there were faster cars, the Torino GT, when equipped properly offered an excellent combination of power and handling. For the 1970 model year, Ford moved away from emulating the boxy lines of the full size Fords to a completely new body for the Torino line, influenced by coke bottle styling. Stylists such as Ford's Bill Shenk, who designed the 1970 Ford Torino, were inspired by supersonic aircraft with narrow waists and bulging forward and rear fuselages needed to reach supersonic speeds. The 1970-1971 Torino remains today as the model's most popular and recognizable generation. Due to the popularity of the 1970 model, the styling was mostly unchanged for 1971, save for minor revisions to trim and the grilles. Engine offerings were wide ranging, from the docile 250 Cu. In. six cylinder to the massive 429 SCJ. Production for 1971 was 326,463 total units. Less than 10% of that production run were Torino GT. Paint is approximately 20 years old, but still is presentable for its age, and has a good shine. This would be considered driver quality paint, not 100 point show paint. There are some touched up bubbles, and chips and a few dings. Finish is good enough for a daily cruising car. Factory Grabber Yellow with Black GT stripes. Dual blacked out sport mirrors. Glass is in good condition all the way around. Most of the chrome, stainless, and bright work in good shape. Front bumper is average. Rear bumper needs to be replated. One piece of door trim by the rear view mirror could be replaced. Five spoke wheels with radial tires. Blacked out front grille. GT scooped hood. GT emblems. Holley four barrel carburetor bolted to factory intake manifold. M/T finned valve covers. Hydraulic cam and valve train. Power steering. Power disc brakes. Heater is not hooked up. Exhaust headers connected to dual exhaust. C-6 automatic transmission. Nine inch rear differential. Adjustable traction bars. Undercarriage has never been detailed. Please view all the photos of the undercarriage in the Photo Bucket file. Trunk is solid. This classic runs and drives good. There are very few classic cars in this price point that run and drive as this one does. Factory Black vinyl bench seat interior. Rear seat in very good condition. Front seat in good shape, tiny bit of wear on outer seat piping. Headliner in average condition. Door panels in good condition. Carpet is in good shape. Factory steering wheel has some wear on the rim. Sunpro water temperature, volts, and oil pressure gauges. Auto Gage programmable tach with shift light. Dash is in good condition. Blaupunkt stereo with three way rear speakers mounted on the package shelf. B&M ratcheting shifter. Weatherstripping is original and shows its' age. There are very few real Torino GT models available for sale. It would be difficult to find one at this price point, in good driver quality condition. Don't miss this opportunity, they don't come very often.
