Vehicle Detail
This listing is by Sherman Auto Sales, Inc. in Fenton, Mo. 63026. We are a 68 year old family automobile dealership. We are fully licensed as a Mo. dealer. My name is Mark Sherman. I am the owner of our company and will be glad to discuss this car in detail with anyone over the phone at 314 920-2804. This 1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible is a true and real car. The mileage on this car is an actual 51,16miles. I purchased this car though an estate in St. Louis, Mo. from the original family that purchased this car new. It has always belonged to this same family, but it has changed family ownership and location between relatives. To my best knowledge the car was in New York until 1983. The family that I purchased the car from drove it back to St. Louis in that year and it has remained in St. Louis for the past 30 years. The mileage I was told was true and original. There are a stack of receipts with the mileage at 46,318 starting on 9/20/1984. Before I begin with the description, I would like to say this is a very BEAUTIFUL car that would be considered driver quality. The car has receipts from the original owners for $20,612.00 that have been spent from 1983 to 2006. The cosmetic restoration of this car was done between 1992 -1994. This car has had a professional color change from a very light powder blue that was code N on the data tag. The paint work is exceptional. This car would be very hard to tell it has had a color change. The body panels are extremely straight and true. The paint work that is 20 years old looks as if it were just done. The is one tiny rust bubble about the size of a pencil eraser on the right door towards the bottom. The is also a very tiny spot back by the edge of the convertible top. Both of these spots are so very, very minimal. There is a a tiny rust spot also on the botton of the passenger door towards the botton by the curve. This is on the underside and is very small in thickness and is about 1 " long. Unless someone pointed this out this had a color change, you would never know. The restoration appeared to have been paint work and some mechanical work. Those restoration tickets were approx $7800. The car sat for several years in there garage, driven just occasionally. I purchased this car in Aug. of 2013 and have receipts for $2049.00 for work that was performed since our purchase. This is the first time this car has been offered for sale by our company. I have established a price that I feel is very fair with both the seller and the purchaser. I am going to list work that was performed prior to our ownership as group #1. Work we had performed as group #2. Group #3 is a list of items that I feel need to be noted. These are faults or imperfections with the car. The faults are anything that I am aware of. These items noted in group #3 are not something that has to be done, but it is important to present a car that has been properly inspected. This is a very beautiful car that has had quality work done, but still has additional work needed to bring it to show quality. The car even though described as driver quality, would still win awards at car shows. It is striking in appearance. Group #1 **Work performed prior to my ownership. All of these facts do have proper receipts. The work is as follows: ($20,612.00 in tickets) 1983 Rebuilt Trans. 1983 Replaced water pump and intake gasket set. 1984 Major brake work and normal servicing. 1984 2 shocks 1985 exhaust repair 1985 repair convertible top operation and valve job. 1985 top repair and neutral safety switch 1985 New convertible top 1992 -1994 Cosmetic Restoration 1996 Major mechanical work performed 1999 Convertible top operation repaired. 2006 Carburetor overhauled and additional mechanical work performed. 2006 Power brake booster replaced. Group #2 **Work performed since our purchase in 2013: ($2049.00 in receipts) Sept 2013 Windshield chip repaired Oct. 2013 Carburetor. rebuilt, grease, oill change, & fuel filter Oct. 2013 Repaired carburetor linkage, dash resistor installed to repair gauge operation, regulator, & minor misc.items. Dec 2013 Front Grill was removed and a few of the aluminum bars were repaired by Manns Restoration Mar 2014 Replaced lifter and push rod. Mar. 2014 Exhaust repair April 2014 Paint was professionally buffed and the car was detailed. The buffing was done with much care. There is not a swirl mark of any type. The paint work 20 years ago was done to high standard and the buffing and finish are show quality. The motor was not washed due to age. This area was wiped with a damp cloth only. Group #3 This is a list of noted faults or imperfections with the car. These list is being very critical of the car. Many of these items can be left alone, but it is still important that they be noted. *The tires are old. They look fine and have good thread.. You will feel a slight tire vibration or thump when you drive the car and for safety reasons they should be replaced. *The weatherstripping around the door jambs. This is both on the doors and the door opening are old and brittle. They were not replaced when the car was painted. They had red-over-spay on them and that has been touched up in black at one time. The rubber strip at the rear bumper on top is also bad. These were never replaced when the paint work was performed. *The fuel gauge does not work properly. I had a resistor replaced to make the other gauges operate. *The right chrome indicator light on the top of the fender has had the inside come apart and is a bag inside the car. *There is not a spare or jack with the car. *The left door panel on the inside has some cracks and is loose and not secured at the bottom. *The interior appears to be all original. The drivers sear material is very sound, but it does have a little sag from the foam padding being old and brittle. You will see foam dust on the floor after getting in and out several times. Both front seats should be taken apart and have the foam replaced. *The drivers rug does have some wear and tears in the corners. This does not show with the mats in place. Both the rubber mats and rugs appear to be original. * There are some scratches and paint imperfections on the steering wheel and the dash area. *The top of the padded dash , does have a crack. *The car from sitting has a slight leak in the transmission, which has gotten better from driving. I have added a can of K & W Trans -X to the system. This is a wonderful product that are company has used for years to help soften older seals. The transmission shifts and operates very properly. *The differential also has a small leak that shows on the ground when parked.. * It appears the heater core has been disconnected as one hose under the hood has been cut off. *The AC system is all in place, but the system did not come on. *The fan on the interior blower system does work, but it did not have a high position. * The steering wheel option to slide to the side does not have that option working. The shifting, steering, and turn signal operations are fine. *The top works properly, but the switch in the console that operated the movement, will sometimes stop and then the switch has to be pressed again to complete the operation. This has happened the 3 times I have worked the top. It still always opens and closes, but this should be addressed. *The boot on the top that is metal, in the top down position is slightly out of adjustment. It sits a little high, when it is fully extended. *The exhaust sounds fine. It has only the 2 rear resonators on the car. The intermediate mufflers are not on the car. When the car came in, one muffler had been already removed. The other muffler had an internal rattle. We removed the muffler that rattled with a straiight pipe section that was welded in place by a muffler shop. The system sounds fine with just the resonators in place. *The bumpers show nicely, but were not re-chromed and show some aging in the finish. *The rear Thunderbird white lens in the bumper, is on a slight angle. It should be sitting flat. *I do not have the original owners manual that would have been in the glove box. *The drivers window operation does work, but the movement of the handle is a little stiff. This should be taken apart and lubricated. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I will be glad to discuss this car in detail with anyone. **THIS CAR HAS NO INTERIOR ODOR AT ALL. I have driven this car approx 200 miles since our ownership in 2013.. Everyone that has come in contact with this car, felt this was a very nice car. I have priced this car at a very fair market value, taking into consideration that additional work is still needed. *This car is available for any type of inspection. I have taken several pictures that all have the zoom option. I will be pleased to take any additional pictures that may be requested by a sincere party. *All proper paper work and transfer will be completed by our company. We are a licensed Mo. dealer. The car is being sold on a clean Mo. title. *Our company does NOT charge any type of documentary fees when we sell our cars. * Our vehicles are sold As-Is. *This car is also for sale locally at our dealership. If the vehicle is sold, the selling dealer has the rights to close this listing. * My direct cell number is 314 920-2804. I will be pleased to discuss this car. Please take the time to read the entire description. IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO GO THROUGH ALL THE PICTURES AND READ ALL THE NOTES, THIS CAR WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU IN ANYWAY. *I will be pleased to go over any of the work-orders of the tickets listed above. The car again shows very nicely. The paint work is show quality. The top is in excellent condition. The cars lines are very straight and true. The paint work was done to a very high quality. The car appeared to be a very solid car, before it was started on. I was able to crawl under the car and it shows one small patch panel on the floor in the drivers area. This was minimal. Many of the options do work. The car in my opinion is an excellent car to enjoy the way it is and to try and bring to a higher level. The motor sounds good. The car drives and shifts nicely. I do not want to make any of the defects listed make the car sound worse then it is. It is just very important that a prospective buyer has a clear picture of this car with both the positive and negative points noted. This car is VERY STRIKING IN APPEARANCE AND DRIVES NICELY. The car in my opinion is an excellent car to enjoy the way it is and to try and bring to a higher level. Thank you for reading this lengthy description. Regards, Mark Sherman 314 920-2804
