With only 26k original miles (documented) never any accidents, a true no-hit body with original Honduras Maroon paint,all original Black interior (including the carpet) original chrome and stainless, excellent frame and underside. In fact, when you look at the external photos of the car, only the tires and top are not factory original. It also has plenty of history and has never left Maryland. Sold new by a local dealership, Loving Chevrolet in Silver Spring, Md, it runs and drives just like a 26k mile car should. So, how can this be? you may ask. What is the reason it has such low miles? This is how we understand the story in the following letter from Ron Anderson, the original salesman and engine re-builder. Ron Anderson 3984 Farm Lane Monrovia. Maryland 21770 January 3, 2014 Over the years, I was a line technician at Loving Chevrolet in Silver Spring, Maryland and had a good working relationship with the dealership owner, Franking Loving- He allowed me to also sell cars as well as work as a tech and this is how this 1962 Corvette life history began. In early I962, I ordered a 1962 Chevrolet 327 cu.in. 340 hp, in Honduras Maroon, (serial number 20867S111420), for Richard Thomas, of Glendale, Maryland. Richard drove the car as delivered for several years before deciding to drag race it. As time went by, he parked it in a shed and after ten or more years, he sold it to Bill Beall of Crofton, Maryland. Bill hired George Reese, of George's Corvette Shop to repair the alterations made for drag racing, Don Foster, of Seabrook, Maryland, finished the car. Bill only drove the car on sunny days and kept it in the garage the rest of the time. In 1978, he sold the car to Ray Osterman from Bowie, Maryland. As fate would have it, in May of 1980, Ray brought the car to me for repair of an oil consumption problem. I removed and disassembled the engine and found that the # 3 cylinder had a cracked piston ring. I sent the engine to Jim Wray, a local machinist Jim bored the engine .040 over and restored the cylinder heads. I reassembled the engine and tuned it back to a great running car. The following year Ray was involved in a fatal car crash. Ray's wife then sold the car to Ken Lube, a tire dealer in Silver Spring, Maryland. Ken owned the car from the early 1980's through about late November 2013. At that time, he sold the car to a collector dealer, Robbie Hudlow of Monrovia, Maryland. Robbie brokered the deal that brought the car to Rod Saboury, a long time Corvette enthusiast. To the best of my knowledge, the miles on the car and the paint are original making this a very desirable car. I feel honored to be an integral part of the history of this corvette. Sincerely, Ron Anderson So, Mr. Anderson rebuilt the engine using all of the factory components of the original 327/340...heads, manifolds everything they could use to get the car as close to original as possible. But, even with Ron's explanation, we still cannot claim that the engine block is the original, but it is a correct 870 Block. Since that time in 1978, the car has only had 4 owners and has been driven just 2000 miles. The car has been documented by Tony's Corvettes in Gaithersburg Md. that includes all past owners notarized statements which verify past history, mileage and originality all the way back to the day it was purchased. Here are just some of the documented findings: * Intake manifold # 3795397 correct * Exhaust manifolds # 3797901 left # 3797902 right both correct * Carter Carb. #3269s correct * Generator 1102268 1m12 (12/12/1961) correct * Distributor 1110985 correct * Radiator overflow 3151016 correct * Convertible top dated 1967 * Side glass original * Front suspension original rust free * Clips for trunk board original * Fiberglass body fit excellent..............And the list goes on.....which includes: the original distributor shielding, 4 NOS Spiral Shocks and a large box of original and NOS items that go with the car. Unfortunately, the potential for restamped engines and reproduced trim/data tags exist in the Classic Car market today.
