1970 Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute SHOW IT, DRIVE IT, ENJOY IT…AN AWESOME MUSTANG FASTBACK My name is John. Please call me at 801-680-8447 with any questions This is a beautifully restored example of a Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute Fastback in remarkable condition. It runs great, drives great, looks great, and the attention it gets is extreme! No Disappointments: This Fastback is a great investment and a fun car to drive and enjoy. From the engine compartment to the trunk and everywhere in between, this is a clean car. The story of the Twister Special is much like other promotional Mustangs of the ’65-’73 era, with a couple of notable exceptions. Created for the Kansas City sales district as a way to garner attention and pump up sales volume, the Twister was unique compared to others in its muscular emphasis and multi-model application. Not only was the Twister theme applied to 96 Mustangs, but 90 Torinos and four Rancheros as well. All were performance oriented, and Twister historian Fritts explained that the original promo plan called for 100 Mustang Mach 1s and 100 Torino Cobras. All the Mustangs were to be fitted with 428 Super Cobra Jet engines and 3.91 rear gears, while the Torinos were to be a blend of 429 CJs and SCJs. Whatever the reason, the final tallies were a bit lower, and half the Mustangs ended up with the new 351 Cleveland four-barrel, reportedly due to supply problems with the big FEs. According to Fritts, the cars debuted en masse at Kansas City International Raceway on November 7, 1969, during a daylong performance demonstration that included luminaries from the Ford Drag Team and Tasca Ford. Other than the blend of Super Cobra Jets and Clevelands, and automatics and four-speeds, Mustang Twister Specials were identically equipped. Every one was a Grabber Orange Mach 1 with a ram-air Shaker scoop, power front disc brakes, a Traction-Lok dif, raised-white-letter F70-14s, and Magnum 500 Wheels or pedestrian hubcaps/trim rings. The Twister graphics were applied by a Ford subcontractor once the cars arrived in Kansas City. These head-turning Mach 1s remain among the rarest Mustangs. This fully restored original Mach 1 is built to replicate the original Twister, with correct Grabber Orange paint, Twister side stripes and logo on the rear quarter, front and rear spoilers, rear window louvers, twist lock hood pins, sports mirrors, Magnum 500 wheels, black comfort weave interior, and 5 speed transmission. The restoration was completed in 2014 and the car has been pampered since, showing in fabulous condition throughout. The following will be a description of each area of the car, being as in-depth and accurate as possible. Please keep in mind that this is a classic car that is over 44 years old, and although I will describe everything as best I can, some small items may have been overlooked. BODY: As you can see from the photos, this Mustang has an absolute gorgeous body. In 2013, the car was professionally painted in the Grabber Orange that you see now. A high-quality prep and application was professionally performed, with no over-spray or orange peel. The paint was then professionally buffed to a high gloss mirror finish and still looks wet. The underside is original floor pans, with great frame rails, strong torque boxes and undercarriage. The panels on this car show great fit and are straight. ENGINE / MECHANICS: There is less than 500 miles on the rebuilt engine. The car runs strong and fast. This Fastback starts at the flick of the key and runs strong and smooth. The car tracks straight and brakes straight, has good steering response and a nice ride. The 5 speed transmission shifts very responsive and smooth. The engine compartment is clean, and detailed. Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Suspension and is firm and responsive to the touch. The car runs and drive like new. Fly in and drive home this mechanically sound automobile. TRUNK: The trunk area is very clean, detailed, and looks great. There is not even a hint of rust. A new trunk mat finishes off the trunk. No issues here, the pictures of the car speak for themselves. OVERALL: The car of course gets lots of looks, it's really what I'd call the perfect collector car: a super desirable Mustang Mach 1 Twister Replica Fastback that is a super nice driver with a 2013 restoration. This car is mechanically sound and runs fantastic. The title is free and clear in my hand.
