Scott 816-739-9940On Apr-02-14 at 19:19:27 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a complete running car with a good clear Missouri title. Under 20 passes since redone. Raced at Bethany, MO 1/2 mile track. Ran in the 6's with different drivers. Seat is bolt in adjustable. John Hill updated the car with help from Larry Kimball and friends in the 90's for racing and taking to local car shows. John Hill was the main financial backer for Kimball Bros Hill performance race team in the 60's and 70's. They all used to work at the local Claycomo Ford assembly plant. John was out of Lawson, MO. His family had a large farm in the area. Later on he started John Hill school bus company. John was responsible for securing the race cars. One being Grumpy Jenkins '67 Chevy Camaro, aka Grumpy's Toy III. They wanted to expand their racing team. They bought this car from a TWA pilot (name unknown) who regularly raced at KCIR in Kansas City with the idea to race two cars in two different classes. The TWA pilot got the car from Bill Allen Chevrolet. After having trouble hooking up, he had just filled the back bumper with lead and on a run did a 360 on the track. He got out of racing and sold the car to John. Racing changed and the Kimball's and John had a vega built. Popular Hot Rodders did a story on the pro stock big block Vega. Both Camaros got salved at this time. In 1973 Gary Kimball, the main driver, got ran over in the staging area by an altered dragster in KC when its throttle got stuck. Larry and John stopped racing after that. John's first wife died in a car wreck just outside Lawson, leaving John with a young son. John wasn't a driver of any of the race cars. Unfortunately John's son, Jay, died in a car wreck on December 28th 1976. The same year my dad opened a parts store in Lawson. I got my first job at John Hill's bus barn at the age of 15. I would sit in these cars on my lunch breaks. Sadly, John passed away on December 28th, 2004. About a year later I bought the car from John's second wife Mary*. I have notarized dated documents that goes with the car upon completion of sale. *Mary Hill was Gary KimbalI's widow The steel hood of Bill Jenkin's can be seen in Doug Boyce's book "Grumpy's Toys" on page 83 - top picture. On Apr-03-14 at 01:37:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Up above it should say: Bethany, MO 1/8th mile track Kimball Bros Hill professional race team both Camaros got shelved Jay died December 23rd and John died December 28thOn Apr-06-14 at 10:18:46 PDT, seller added the following information: In addition: Kimball Bros. Hill team had two Big Black Camaros, the first one being the '67 of Grumpy's. At some events they would run two classes requiring them to change out intake and carburetors to meet class specs. It was a lot of work and after having successful seasons a second Big Black car was acquired. This is that second Big Black car. They also ran a '69 2/28 302 small black car in yet another class. When class and rules changed, they concentrated on running the Vega. My thanks to James for sharing a link with a photo of this car in full racing action.
