Hi! I'm Larry and thought I was a guy who liked to work on old motorcycles in his garage. Turns out, I was only partially right--I like to work on old straight fours, but do not seem to derive the same pleasure from GL's. I bought two non-running Gold Wings in hopes of making one that runs. After much hair-pulling and head-banging, the result is what you see in the pictures. It runs, but not well. I no longer have the patience to work on it. Here are some of the particulars: 1. It's base is a 1980 GL1100 Interstate.2. Many of the parts came off a 1983 GL1100 Interstate--such as the carb bank, fairing and body panels, exhaust, fuel tank, and rear luggage.3. Some of the parts are brand new--such as both tires and both timing belts. The front and rear master cylinders have been rebuilt with new kits, and the front calipers were redone as well. The fork seals and dust covers are new.4. Some of the things I know it needs are a new speedometer and cable, a thermostat, and probably new o-rings in the carbs (a leak has developed). A bolt has twisted off in the frame on the engine hanger brackets on each side of the bike. It also needs something done to the front brakes. As you see in #3 above, I've rebuilt most of the components, but the front brakes are still mushy. I've tried replacing the lines with (old) lines that I know are functional, but to no avail. It may be as simple as replacing them with new lines, but I've lost the motivation to do so.5. It comes with another engine (83 GL1100). It comes as pictured. I did the best I could with it. No, in addition to the dangerous front brakes, the carbs also need tuning and the leak needs to be addressed. The radio works, but I have never tried the cassette player. There is an antenna that is not in the pictures. The title is clear and is in my name.
