Vehicle Detail
1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI One of the original Volkswagens to be produced in America, the original hot hatch, 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI. This car has the potential to be a lot of fun. I have only had the joy of driving it approximately 50 miles. When I originally purchased the car it had seats that were destroyed with ugly covers over them and the entire interior was painted with black spray paint, like the currently installed dashboard. There were 2 paths I could have taken. The 1st being to start evaluating and repairing the mechanical concerns of the vehicle or secondly being to start repairing/replacing the interior. Since the exterior was a 6-7 on a scale of 10 and mechanical repairs should be easily found at the dealer or after market supplier, I chose to start with the interior items since they would and are becoming extinct. I found a great set of seats fronts and rear, door cards front (with arm rest/grab handles) and rear, trunk side trim carpet, sun visors, dashboard (not installed not cracked at all), glovebox (not installed will clean up), driver side kneed bar (not installed missing 1 top clip), center console (not installed and not sun faded - note the extra sharp cherry coloring), clam shell (not installed), a pillar trim and front headliner trim, shift boot (not installed and about a 4 on a scale of 10). Outside of those items I just put brand new rubber on the wheels. The spare has a good tire and the winning bidder will receive 2 extra wheels without tires as spares. The paint appeared to be refreshed not long before I bought the car all most a year ago and has been stored in a garage since. I have not found any rust on the body or in the likely areas for mk1 Volkswagens. Please note the pictures for items like the driver side front turn signal is cracked (does not take in water), driver side rear side marker (cracked), driver side rear tail lamp turn signal has a vertical crack and will take in water. Speedometer stopped (mileage is incorrect and was before I took ownership). The only items in the instrument cluster that I know do work are the temp and fuel gauges. The brake warning light on and red, unsure why. The vehicle has an uneven idle at times and will stall if throttle is not applied. Driver side door lock does not unlock with key, passenger side and hatch work as designed. I will be providing a shift knob with closing bid. Please keep in mind that this is a "antique auto" that has not been exercised regularly and I can not ensure the safety of driving it home, I strongly encourage the winning bidder to have it trailered home and inspected before driving it. For a vehicle that is over 30 years old it does not have too far to go before gripping the full potential of "fun" . Please ask any and all questions. ALL SALES ARE FINAL WITHOUT WARRANTIES. CAR IS BEING SOLD AS IS WHERE IS. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
