Vehicle Detail

History: I bought this car in 2007 in Palo Alto, CA from one of the original employees at Google. It was four years old, had spent its entire life in the mild Bay Area climate, had < 30,000 miles on it and was "like new" at the time. (He had purchased it as a certified pre-owned vehicle in 2004.) It was my first car purchase, so I took great care of it. It has been regularly washed and well cared for. It spent its entire life in the San Francisco Bay Area until April 2013, when I moved to Manhattan. It has always been in a moderate climate -- car never saw snow until a few months ago when I moved to New York. Why am I selling?I moved to cross country to be with my fiancee in April 2013, and we decided to buy a Subaru with AWD as we wanted a car with AWD for the snow. If I didn't need AWD, I wouldn't be selling this car. Condition: For a car that's 10 years old, it's in very good condition. My wife has been driving it to work, and her colleagues are regularly shocked when they find out it's 10 years old. Until December 2013, the car had never seen snow. It has many small scratches and bumps on the rear-bumper that would be standard for cars that are parked outside on a city block in San Francisco. It was parked outside daily when I lived in San Francisco and garaged during the day in Silicon Valley. There are some carpet stains on the back right mat and on the front driver and passenger's side. Minor scratches to other parts as indicated in the pictures. The car is due for an oil change and 90,000 mile checkup. Service records are available. Regular oil changes every 15,000 miles with BMW's special synthetic oil. (BMWs do not need oil changed every 3,000 miles like other cars). I had new tires put on about 2 years ago, and they are still in good shape - should last another 15-20K miles. Special Features: dual power seats with driver memory seats. Anti-dimming rear-view mirror. Rain-activated wipers. Automatic lights. Known Issues: a) the battery in the car key is running low, so you will soon need a new key for remote access. (The batteries run out every 3-4 years and BMW makes you buy a new key). A new key will cost ~$225. b) the windshield fluid dispenser sensor is broken and needs to be fixed. This happened this fall, and I've not fixed it. c) the car is due for an oil change. BMW uses a special oil and oil changes are required every 15,000 miles. It was due for an oil change at 88,000 miles. d) the passenger airbag light frequently comes on. I've had mechanics look into this multiple times over the past 5 years, and they all told me this was a common issue with the 3-Series sensor and it would cost them $900 in labor to get to the sensor at which point they might find it was working just fine. I believe BMW recently did a recall of this feature for the 2002-2006 models so you can probably take it to any dealer and have them fix / replace it for free under BMW's recall. e) the "Service Engine Soon" light pops up regularly. This has happened the entire time I've owned the car, and I've never had an issue with the engine. It has always passed California's anti-smog inspections just fine. I've had 2 mechanics check it out, and they both told me this is a common issue and the engine is fine. It won't pass a smog inspection when the Engine Light is on, but if you run it on the highway first, it will pass fine. Shipping and payment: buyer pays for shipping. (Alternatively, you can pickup from my parents' home, where it is parked currently, in Wayne, PA).On Dec-30-13 at 21:53:00 PST, seller added the following information: My Contact Information:NICK MINEKIMEMobile: 415.699.4396Email: nicholas.minekime@gmail.com History: I bought this car in 2007 in Palo Alto, CA from one of the original employees at Google.
