Up for auction is one of the most iconic, sporty and quirky hot hatches ever made, the 2003 Honda Civic SI (EP3). The car was built in the United Kingdom and was the first Civic to have the amazing K-series engine in it (K20A3). It was seen by many reviewers to have some of the best chassis tuning ever put into a hot hatch. Its handling was second to none. It was also unique in that it shared no body panels with the regular trim civics. This car belongs to the only generation with this accomplishment. The first part of this video is a review of the car, which is sold as a Type R in the UK. The chassis is identical to the US Si model. Top Gear Honda Civic Review Car Specs and Overview The Car's History: This car is a 3 owner car, and has an Autocheck score of 77 (Normal Range is 34-58). The complete Autocheck is included below. The car has been garaged for the vast majority of its life, and has never seen a harsh winter road. The only time it has EVER gone out in the winter is to take the pictures for this advertisement. Otherwise it was kept as a weekend car, and the low mileage reflects this. The car had a small fender bender in 2008, which involved the front left fender. The car was repaired with all OEM Honda parts and repainted in OEM Nighthawk Black Pearl by Thunder Auto Body in Elizabeth, NJ. The cost of the repaint was over $3500. There are no damaged areas because of the fender bender and all panel gaps are within spec. The car has a current NJ state inspection, good until 2015. The car has a clean NJ title. Its last owner was an avid EPhatch.com forum member and a master technician at Land Rover that did all of his own work. Engine/Drivetrain: The recent work to this car's engine include: NGK Iridium Spark Plugs 10k miles ago ($75)Oil Change with Filter (Less than 2 days ago, $40)New AC Compressor, Belt and R134A Charge (5k miles ago, $350)New OEM Motor Mounts (50 miles ago, $265)New O2 Sensors (4k miles ago, $240)New Clutch Master Cylinder and DOT3 fluid (1k miles ago, $50) All Aftermarket parts were bought NEW and include: DC Sports Ceramic 4-2-1 Race Header ($450)AEM Cold Air intake ($250)Spectre 3" Cone Filter ($30) There are no issues with the engine starting and running in any weather. It revs freely, engages VTEC at speed, and sounds phenomenal. It has no trouble codes, and no CEL (check engine) codes are on. It will do 30-35 MPG all day and it runs on regular (87 Octane) fuel. The transmission is a 6 Speed RSX Type S transmission. ($1200) The ratios of the gears are much closer and it really gives the car the drivability it needs with such a peppy engine. With this transmission, takes off much faster than stock and can stay in the powerband for much longer. There are no issues with synchro wear, and the tranmission was flushed with Honda Manual Transmission Fluid, as per the service manual. There is an OEM Acura RSX Flywheel and Clutch as well. All speedometer, reverse lights and shifter functions work perfectly. It is an amazing addition to the car and really makes the car stand out from other civics. Exhaust: The exhaust includes a DC Sports 4-2-1 Race Header with High flow Catalytic Converter, with stock midpipe and catback. The car is very quiet at idle and cruising, and has a defined growl when reaching higher RPMs. Its exhaust note sounds amazing, and it's my favorite out of naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engines. Brakes: The brake pads were changed 5k miles ago with Hawk Pads. The rotors are in good shape and still have much life left on them. The brake fluid is not varnished, there is no air in the system, and the emergency/parking brake works perfectly. Suspension: This car has Tein SS Street Basis Suspension. It is height adjustable and has been lowered 1 inch. ($940). There are also new outer tie rods ($75) and Stabilizer links ($82) It is a firm but sporty ride. It allows a much greater handling capability. Tires/Alignment: All 4 tires have been replaced with good used 205/55/15 units with 70% tread, but they are different manufacturers. They include: Bridgestone Potenza G (Front Left)Michelin XGT V4 (Front Right)Goodyear Eagle GTII (Rear Set)There are no signs of camber wear or alignment issues. Car tracks straight and true. Wheels: The car has 15"x 6.5"Super lightweight Rota Slipstream Wheels. They weigh 11.9 lbs each and have a polished aluminum finish with a slight lip. They are in great condition with no curb rash, cracks or bends. They were purchased new from a local rim shop, LAV Motorsports, at $800, 3 years ago. Exterior: The car's paint was redone in 2008 by Thunder Auto Body in Elizabeth, NJ. The cost for the paintjob was approximately $3500. The color was the OEM Honda Nighthawk Black Pearl. There are a few blemishes in this car's exterior. There is scratching and scuff marks on the bottom of the driver's side door, as it was opened into a high concrete curb. The driver's side quarter panel has light scratches that would need a professional polish to be taken out completely. The front bumper has paint cracks on the front, lower right and lower left, where the front side markers were deleted by the bodyshop. There are a few slight dings on the passenger's door and driver's quarter panel, not bigger than a nickel, which can be popped out with paintless dent repair. The rear bumper has a paint crack no bigger than a quarter in the middle of the bumper. The car would need a few areas touched up and buffed to eliminate swirl marks and scratches, but it's in generally good shape all around. There is also no rust anywhere on the car. The car has WeatherTech tinted window rain guards ($50) that add to the looks and functionality of the car. They are completely removable as well. There is a VIS Carbon Fiber CTR Replica Rear Window spoiler ($380) that really ties the look of the car together. Interior: The interior of this car is black, with black cloth/suede seats with red stitching and inserts. The interior is perhaps the most striking thing about this car, as it makes all the room in the car available. It has more room for passengers than most mid-size cars at twice the cost. The dash, door panels and seats are in amazing condition, with no tears or major scuffs anywhere to be seen. The plastic pieces were always wiped down with armor all and there are no stains or major bolster wear markings on the seats. The OEM black cloth floor mats are included, but the driver's side has a 2 inch hole worn into it. There is an aftermarket Skunk2 style weighted shiftknob made out of billet aluminum, with a 6 speed shift pattern to accommodate the RSX transmission. ($40) The car currently does not have a spare tire and is missing the plywood backing that covers the rear spare tire area. There are two black dummy switches, one on either side of the steering wheel. These can be used for anything and are not wired to anything at the moment. The leather steering wheel has wear at the top, but does not have rips. It can be recovered if taken to a professional in upholstery. The headliner is in great condition and has no blemishes. The car has never been smoked in and is in generally great condition. Audio/Electronics: The speakers and amplifiers are all stock, with no issues with any of them. An amazing setup for such a small car. All stock electronics and features work in the car with no problem, including all clearance lights and motors. The car comes with 1 key and 1 keyless entry key fob. The car has a factory anti-theft/transponder key. The headlights are aftermarket DEPO HID Projectors, professionally wired with relays for high and low beams. The bulbs are 6000K white, and they have a great cutoff and work perfectly. The High beams are halogen. Heating/Air Conditioning: The heating and AC work well with no issue. The AC was recently serviced, with new AC compressor, drier, recharge and belt. Drivability: The car is one of the best, if not the best hot hatchbacks one can buy for this money. Its straight line acceleration, ability to hold the road and aesthetic appeal make it just unbeatable by any standard. It's great for the younger enthusiast as well as the seasoned pro that wants a well-balanced weekend cruiser. The only reason I'm selling it is that I want to put a down payment on a house.
