Vehicle Detail
TRUE BARN FIND ALL ORIGINAL 1966 BMW R60 I am reluctantly putting this original Dover White R60 up for sale. This bike is a true “survivor”. Only 37,000 miles, I found her in a barn about 2 months ago. The original owner was a mechanic that took exceptionally good care of this beautiful Dover White R60. I was fortunate enough to buy the bike from the daughter who was handling the estate. I brought the bike home, checked to see if she would start. Did not have a spark since the bike was in a barn in Florida; the humidity had gotten into the coil. So I replaced the original coil with a new sealed coil (with the extra ground wire) decided to install a new set of points and condenser while I had the front cover off. Drained the old gas out, fresh gas in, after for setting for all of these years, on the first kick she sputtered, second kick she started and ran for about 5 seconds. Third kick she started and purred just like she did in 1966. I was able to speak with a very nice gentleman that knew and rode with the original owner of the Dover White R60. I was told the owner was very meticulous about his vintage BMW. The gentleman told me that any time the bike was going to set for more than a month or two. The owner would pour about a cap full of Marvel Mystery Oil into each cylinder and kick her over a few times. I was able to get that original can of Marvel Mystery oil. (see picture) It will go with the bike. The great compression (140PSI) on a 47 year old bike , proves the bike was well taken care of. This bike is an all original Dover White highly desirable R60. These bikes just do not come up for sale very often. I have lost sleep on wondering if I should keep this one. The bike is so nice, just hard to let her go. I have decided to put a “decent and fair” reserve on her. If I can’t get the reserve, I will be very happy to keep this one. Some specifics about the bike: Engine compression 140 PSI (see picture) Electrical system charging perfect 7.2 volts (see picture) Brand new 6 volt gel battery installed Karcoma petcock rebuilt New fuel lines with filters installed Original speedometer and odometer works perfectly I checked the timing with a timing light, set perfectly on the “S” mark Generator and neutral light works perfect (see picture) All lights work, headlight, brake light, original Hella turn signals (see pictures) Correct matching number Bing Carbs 1-24-133 and 1-24-134 The bike has the original old fashioned “wire ties” holding the original wiring Keys for the fork lock and the tool box I have been riding the bike around the neighborhood. She starts great, pulls strong, shifts smoothly. Drives down the road straight and true. This is a bike you can buy today and drive it the same day. How many 47 year old vintage BMW bikes have you seen lately that is ALL ORIGINAL and needs nothing? This is a very special bike. Another great fact about this bike, it is an ALL MATCHING numbers bike. The engine number, ID tag number, frame number and title number all match. This bike will be a great bike to ride or add to your collection. These bikes sold in the mid 60’s for about $1,400. As you know, the prices just keep going up, great investment that you can ride and enjoy. Of all of the /2 vintage BMW bikes produced in that era. The R60 was the favorite. The engineers at BMW got everything right with this model. That is the reason the R60 is such a highly collectable bike. This bike does everything exceptionally well. The best news is she starts on the FIRST KICK! For any serious buyers, I can send you the video of her starting on the first kick. Thanks for looking and good luck!! I have 100% positive feedback with most of my items being BMW Vintage bikes and parts, so bid with confidence. I have a CLEAR Florida title in my name, easy transfer. Another feature about this bike it has the sidecar mounts on the frame. Very easy to mount your sidecar to this bike, it was designed for a sidecar. Sometimes ebay estimates shipping and it is usually incorrect. Buyer to pay for actual shipping costs. If it a Florida delivery I might be able to assist with the delivery for a small fee. The only payment accepted will be cash or a wire transfer from a reputable bank. Hopefully this will eliminate any scammers. Thanks for looking and good luck!
