1957 Classic Volkswagon Panel Van (Type 2) for sale - VERY RARE! Loaded with extras! A 56 year old beauty ready for restoration! There can't be many of these left in this good of condition. The chassis number (233664) dates it to January of 1957. Clean title. Speedometer was replaced. THERE IS A VIDEO of the van on YOUTUBE: http://youtu.be/87ePY7mJ0-E This was an Arizona van until 2000/01 when I drove it to New Hampshire and stored it. It is still there, apx 30 miles west of Manchester and you will need to arrange pickup if you win the auction. The engine is a late 1960's 1600cc engine with the dog-house cooler. The transmission is a later model (mid/late 60s). The engine was rebuilt in a shop in New Mexico when the old one gave up the ghost en route to NH. It ran when it was parked 12 years ago. Currently the engine does not run and one of the rear wheel hubs is locked up due to rust. The best part of this van is that the body is loaded with original parts from a working speedometer to the little swinging chrome latch on the gas-tank door. It includes the worn and torn but original front floor mat. The sheet metal over the rear wheels was never cut! The wipers have the motor and the connecting rods. The seats have all the springs and connections and just need to be reupholstered. There is some rust and some light hits to the rear of the vehicle as shown in the photos. There is some bondo on the vehicle - some on the back and some on the floor of the front cab. The body is very straight. One hinge on the engine compartment is broken and the mechanism which holds the door up is missing. As you can see in the photos someone added the two lower taillights. The good news is that the holes drilled for these are much smaller than the size of the actual lights. It is missing: the original jack, the rear bumper, the license plate light. The two side view mirrors are broken. They are reproductions. When I purchased this van in the 1980's it did not have any side mirrors. The original left turn signal taillight is broken. The middle brake light on the engine compartment door is original glass and in good shape. In the photo it looks weird but that is just some scotch tape on it, not scratches. Included with the purchase is a box full of rare parts that would cost hundreds to buy (see 2nd photo): the original 6v horn, an extra speedometer (working but the gauge needle is odd), an extra gas tank door and latches, three extra original door handles, an extra front door handle (locking), a chrome bevel from the engine compartment brake light, bulbs and holders for the oil and voltage warning lights, extra sliding window parts, some extra front door hinge pins, a taillight that is broken but has good glass in it and a photocopy of an original factory parts guide for this model which shows every single part of the van and its original factory part number.
