This 2003 Discovery was purchased used in 2009, with stock drivetrain and a broken front bumper and fog light. I never fixed the front bumper (indecision on whether or not to go with a winch) but I did replace the gasoline V8 with a 300TDI diesel engine and transmission that was used in similar models in the UK. The conversion was carried out professionally by a local, reputable mechanic at a machine shop. Details130,xxx miles on the frame and body. (this is still a daily driver) Imported 2.5 liter turbodiesel engine and automatic transmission have 56,xxx miles. Typically returns 22-24mpg, mixed highway and city driving. Factory climate control system works great. (4) 255/55R-18 Sumitomo HTR Sport H/P tires with less than 15,000 miles, non-matching spare. (Goodyear Wrangler HP) Desirable 18" wheels, all in good condition. Upgraded 100A alternator. Silicone turbo hoses. Dual thermostatically controlled electric cooling fans inside the engine bay instead of a belt-turned fan blade. Lifetime aftermarket K&N air filter. All four power windows are fully operable. Upgraded battery with 860 cranking amps. Front driveshaft professionally rebuilt in 2010 and greased at every subsequent oil change. Interior is in good shape, driver's seat shows the most wear as you would expect. Factory CD changer, cassette deck and AM/FM radio are all functional. Has seatbelts for seven passengers when the rear jumpseats are folded down. The engine operates on a mechanically controlled fuel injection pump (NOT electronic), and the transmission shifts based on hydraulic pressure. It did not have any odors when I bought it, and it has not been smoked in under my ownership. Known Issues - Cosmetic damage to front bumper, grille and passenger side fog light due to minor collision before I bought it. - When fuel tank is full the gauge only shows it at half, so you have to keep track of tank mileage.- Cruise control and tachometer are not functional. ECU does not recognize the transmission, so it blinks “M” and “S” for manual/sport mode. - The Check Engine light stays illuminated constantly because the ECU does not recognize the engine. The "three amigos" also come on sporadically. - The fuel tank filler port was left stock, so it's currently refilled using a funnel. - Rear sunroof works fine, front sunroof works sporadically. - Small dent on passenger side of hood. - Recent beauty mark from a fellow parking lot user on front passenger's door. - There is a groan from the front left wheel area when making sharp, slow speed turns. I looked up the service bulletin on this, but never had the condition corrected. - Vehicle is currently registered in Arkansas, where no annual emissions testing is required. It may or may not pass an emissions test in another state, so please keep that in mind before you commit to buy.
