Vehicle Detail

Bike is being relisted. I thought we had the bike sold last month but the high bidder had something come up and couldn't pay for it.... So, here we are again..... Please read carefully and ask questions. 1977 BMW R80/7 Café Racer Up for auction is my BMW R80/7 Café Racer. I’ve owned the bike for about 15 years and it has progressed throughout the years into this cool café style airhead. Let’s start with the engine. It is a strong running 800 cc motor breathing through new Mikuni carbs. I got tired of fiddling with the original CV carbs and mounted the Mukuni’s this season. A huge difference in power. Pulls like a train. The engine has Dyna II electronic ignition and a newer gel battery hidden under the tailpiece. Exhaust starts out with stock but lengthened, header pipes and crossover wrapped in dark grey Kevlar heat wrap. The mufflers are custom from Cone Engineering and they sound awesome. Not too loud at idle or rumbling through town, but when you get on it there is a great growl. Breathes very free through the Mikuni’s and K&N pod filters. Throttle cables are new custom as well; Bike starts easily and pulls very hard through all of the gears. The frame was relieved of its unnecessary tabs and brackets. Side cover tabs, battery box tabs, rear fender mounts have been removed for a clean look. The frame has been powder coated in gloss black. Raask rearrests are fitted. Proper fitment for this bike using adjustable heim joints. Very solid Rear Shocks are adjustable KONI’s. Front forks have Progressive springs. Fork oil was just changed. No sign of any leaks. Brakes are stock. Single disc in front, drum in rear. The brakes were going to be my next project. Maybe a modern front fork with dual discs or simply a dual disc BMW setup from a 80's bike. Truthfully, the brakes on these ‘70’s airheads were never that great. The tank is stock, very clean inside and finished in a great dark metallic grey. The paint was professionally done a couple of years ago and is holding up very well. Black pinstripes are done in a quality vinyl. Seat and tailpiece are custom. The seat core is marine plywood coated in epoxy and professionally upholstered using smooth and perforated black vinyl from a BMWE 535i (car) it’s a pretty hard seat but I wanted the foam to stay rigid and not look stuffed. The tailpiece is actually thermo molded plastic. I carved the shape from a big block of pine, used as a mold and a friend vacuformed the shape over it. It came out very nice. Light but very rigid. As mentioned before, the tailpiece houses the gel battery. There is a pigtail for trickle charging the battery. The taillight is a piece I picked up at a jumble. Not sure what it is from but it looks great. I machined the surfaces to mate with the tail. Headlight is a Hella H1. Headlight brackets and triple tree are custom from San Jose BMW. Bike does not have a key. I replaced the key switch with a rubber waterproof on/off switch. It’s fairly stealth. Clubman bars with bar end mirrors. Tires are newer Dunlop’s with less than 1000 miles. Wheels are straight and balanced Frame and engine numbers do not match. Bike is and has been registered and titled in GA. and CT and is currently registered in CT. VIN number is frame number which is clearly legible through the powder coat. Sometime prior to my ownership, someone crudely tried to match the engine number to a frame number. I originally bought the bike from Global BMW in Atlanta. This is not a big deal since title and registration are clear and in my name. Again, registration follows frame number. Just wanted to be clear. Noted mileage is approximate. Gauges have been removed. All fluids have been changed this season and I have ridden it about 250 miles this season. The bike is a joy to ride. Very aggressive for an older BMW airhead. Lots of power. Very snappy throttle response. Very well balanced and handles great. Very fun on a twisty road. Please look at the pictures and ask questions. I have owned this bike for a long time and know it well. I will answer all questions promptly. Shipping and shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser. I would be happy to help with logistics. Bike is sold as is, where is with no warranty written or implied.
