1969 Cadillac Eldorado Del Caballero Edition Up For Auction With NO RESERVE, Ultra-Rare, Gorgeous! Unique Caddy commisioned by GM, details at these links: http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/u/universal_coach/universal_coach.htm http://www.barriskustomnews.com/2013/03/25/the-del-caballero-to-debut-at-george-barris-culver-city-car-show-may-2013/ From the article: "Based on a design by George Barris, the Del Caballero ("belonging to the gentleman") Model Eldorado was a personalized front-wheel drive, half-top Eldorado built to Barris' design and specifications; it features include a retractable roof over the driver area, landau bars and sterling-silver owner's nameplate. Other special features include deluxe wheel covers, wraparound directional and parking lights, aircraft interior lamps, pin-striping, headlight shrouds carrying a winged Cadillac emblem, sun roof, padded top, triple chrome-plated Tiffany imitation landau bars, El Coche ("the car") upper door trim and chrome accent spear and, finally, a Derham-type limousine rear window." From the research I've done, under 100 Eldorado Del Caballero Editions were made for the 1969 model year, and under 400 overall for the years available, 1967-1970. I bought it from a "Jay Leno" type collector with many classics and customs in Connecticut who was liquidating his collection. He bought it at auction down south in 1988, I've owned it since 2011. Powerful 472 V8, 89k original miles. Options include all power features, power moonroof, cruise control, disc brakes, telescoping and tilt steering wheel, shoulder belts, twilight sentinel / auto dimming lights, and remote trunk release. The power sunroof option was priced at $626.00, making it the most expensive option offered on a 1969 Eldorado, details at this link: http://automotivemileposts.com/eldo1969sunroof.htmlCosmetic: The interior had some restoration done about ten years ago, including a new color matched carpet and headliner. The door panels, rear panels and dash are close to perfect, no cracks or broken trim anywhere. The front seat is showing some wear, the back of the driver's seat has a seam opening and the bottom of the passenger side and center armrest has some cracking in the leather as seen in the pix. Nothing too bad, it's just that the rest of the interior is so nice the wear on the seat stands out. Modern stereo and new speakers in the dash, otherwise all original. The chrome and brightwork are very straight and clean, some fading showing on the front bumper. The exterior of the car is all original; it had the "Ziebart" rustproofing done when new (as seen in the pic, that little button is where the rustproofing was sprayed into) so the Eldo has no rust whatsoever. It's always been a "Garage Queen" so everything has held up well. The paint is still in pretty good shape, she shines up nicely when waxed. Overall the exterior is in very good "survivor" condition, a few scratches have been touched up here and there but still presents nicely, even up close. The windshield shows some scratches, probably from bad wipers, only visible in direct sunlight. The vinyl is in great shape, including the trim on the trunk and on the doors. The moonroof is HUGE, it almost feels like a convertible when you've got it pen on the highway. This Eldorado is truly something to behold in person, most people have no idea what it is; sometimes they guess it's European. Mechanically: I haven't done much, I probably haven't even put 1000 miles on the car since I've owned it. It's so rare and nice I just don't her out much! I've done a new exhaust, done right with all welded pipes and Walker muffler, the engine has a nice purr. The only other things I've done are new Cooper radials, brakes all around, coolant flush and oil changes. The climate control works properly; the temperature control as well as switching through all the vents, which is good since the "wheel" style of Cadillac climate control can be problematic. The a/c compressor was replaced at some point; the a/c system has not been retrofitted, it still has some old R12 in the system but just blows cool and the cruise control works intermittently. The moonroof motor works but it strains a bit so I usually use the hand crank to open and close the moonroof. Surprisingly, the moonroof doesn't leak in the rain or even in a car wash. Power windows and power seats work properly. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Engine starts easily, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Runs very strong, LOTS of power from the 472 V8, tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly with the front disc brakes. She idles well, shifts smoothly, stops easily and the suspension is luxurious yet tight. Drives overall like a Caddy should. She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work as well as the horn and wipers. The Eldo will appear in the movie "Blood Ties", a feature film coming out in 2014 about the Russian Mafia set in 70's NYC. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. We always get smiles and waves when we take her out. A unique, rare Cadillac that is as much fun to drive as it is to look at and will only appreciate in value. Any questions feel free to call or email. 914-224-3230
