Vehicle Detail

This is a 1954 Ford sedan delivery “Courier” project vehicle. Whether restored, street-rodded, or rat-rodded, this is a unique-looking vehicle in today’s world of soap-bar cars. The Ford Courier is a 2-door delivery wagon based on the 2-door station wagon, this was originally a V8 powered vehicle, but now has a six-cylinder with 3-speed. Couriers had an up-rated suspension and rear axle, compared to a station wagon, and only a single bench seat, with flat cargo space behind. The spare tire is contained in a well below the floor and behind the rear axle. A single rear door is hinged on the left and opens fully to permit cargo access. At present, this vehicle is unrestored. There are no “missing rare parts”. This is a pretty complete vehicle, but it will need new floors and some rust repair on the lower edges of the body, fenders and doors. The rear door is sound and functions properly, and the rear glass is good. The passenger side door latch has a broken spring, but all other hinges, latches, and springs are in working order. A good replacement tire well goes with the car, since the original is rusted along the bottom. Photos show that the body is straight and all panels are in good shape (except for the right front fender), and show serious rust only on the lower edges. The frame shows surface rust but is still straight and solid. The dash and interior are complete and original, but need complete restoration. The headliner was removed, but top bows retained in their original positions. The key is in the ignition. The engine and transmission are in unknown condition—a six-cylinder replaces the original V8. The serial number starts “U4MS…” indicating this was originally a V8-239 Y-block. It will roll onto a 16’-18’ trailer, (minimum 80” wide) It is located near Fayetteville, AR. It has a current Arkansas title. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Thanks for looking!
