Vehicle Detail
Solid 1937 LaSalle Sport Coupe, model 5027. Only 5801 sport coupes were made. I purchased the car 10 years ago while living in rural Kansas. I'm trying to restore three other vehicles and would like to free up some of my garage space. Vehicle needs complete restoration. Has new 6 volt battery, battery cable, & ignition wiring to start/run the car. Previous owners have made a poor attempt to repaint several areas of the car. There are numerous chips, scratches, sanding marks, areas of primer, areas void of paint, and the driver's door has had some collision damage, although it appears to have been professionally repaired. (See pictures). Paint is missing in some areas (passenger-side windshield). The fuel pump has been professionally rebuilt by Terrell Machine. Car is missing the original gas tank, but previous owner had one fabricated. There is a 6 volt electric fuel pump (currently not hooked up). The engine appears to be a true LaSalle engine, but I don't know if it is the original engine for the car. The engine starts/runs but is rough and noisy as the muffler is shot. I have replaced the ignition wiring so that the car could be started. The car was missing the air cleaner with its 2 horns. I finally purchased an air cleaner/horn unit through a Cadillac-LaSalle club member. The headlight lenses are now the correct multibeam duo light lenses. The car had Chevrolet lenses when I purchased it. The ignition coil is not the correct Delco Remy coil. I have a coil with the proper cap for the armored cable that I will supply to the buyer. The hood mascot was broken when I bought the car. (See pictures) The front seat is complete and can be reupholstered. The rear jump seats were missing when I bought the car. I tried to buy a set from a gentleman in Kansas, but was unsuccessful in coming to terms with him. The dashboard & instruments appeared to be very restorable. Nice banjo steering wheel and horn button. The car has an original LaSalle radio with speaker. The round radio cover is missing. (See pictures). Two of the doors on the heater are also missing. Car currently has no brakes. The cap for the master cylinder was cracked and there was a piece missing, allowing the brake fluid to slowly evaporate. Car had reasonably good brakes when I bought it. I've replaced the broken cap, but have not bled the brakes. Car has four wide whitewall tires which are in good condition with very serviceable tread left. There is an old spare in the trunk with the correct rim for this LaSalle. The trunk handle lock mechanism was trashed when I bought the car. New owner will need to locate a new trunk handle. All the glass on the car appears to be in reasonable condition. There are no cracks or chips, and the vent windows and main windows all operate adequately. If you've been looking for a solid, original 1937 LaSalle sport coupe, this would be a great car to restore. Or, it would make a great winter project for any hobbyist. The previous owner was unable to locate the title, at the time I bought the car and consequently provided me with a notarized bill of sale which I used to procure a clear Kansas title. The previous owner later provided me with an Arkansas title. The new buyer will get both titles so that he may submit them both to obtain a title in his name. In case you haven't noticed, I've only recently become an eBay seller and the La Salle would be the first item that I will sell. I've been an eBay buyer for more than 10 years, with good feedback. So, if you have a question regarding the LaSalle, send me an email or call me at home days/evenings or after 7 PM (Eastern Time Zone) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday's. (Semiretired now) (812) 342-2525 and I will do my best to answer your questions as honestly and completely as I can. Remember there is No Reserve. Good luck and happy bidding!
