HONDA NX250 DUAL SPORT!!!ADVENTURE BIKING AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE!!!! Up for auction is an extremely rare 1989 Honda NX250 Dual Sport. This bike was only available in the US for 3 years (1988 thru 1990) and was way ahead of it's time. It's a lightweight crossover dual sport motorcycle with an electric start, four-stroke, water-cooled, DOHC, four-valve, single-cylinder, 249cc engine mated to a six-speed transmission. The NX-series received rave reviews when introduced, but due to a lack of market for a dual sport in the late eighties, the model died out in the US and only continued for another 3 years on other markets. Now these bikes are becoming collectible and hard to find, which makes this a great opportunity for a some lucky buyer! This particular specimen is mechanically spectacular! When I bought it, it would turn over but not start. The carburetor got rebuilt (not just cleaned) and a new spark plug. Still no joy, so after some troubleshooting it was discovered that the CDI was bad, so that was replaced. After that, it was smooth sailing. An oil and filter change, new battery, radiator flush and fill, and the bike popped over on the second try! There is no smoke and no weird noises. It starts and runs down the road no problem and has lots of torque. On my test ride it took me down the interstate at 60mph and wanted to do more! It has plenty of power and will pull the front wheel up pretty easily (oops!). All the lights work, horn sounds, and it just passed the Virginia state safety inspection, so Virginia buyers are good to go until July 2014! The tires that are on there are aggressive and meant more for off-road, but along with the purchase will come a brand new set of Shinko road tires that have never been unpackaged, much less mounted! If the new buyer wants those tires mounted, I'll do it for an additional $50. Unfortunately, the previous owner(s) used it primarily off road, so the plastics are not in as great condition as the rest of the bike. The headlight surround plastic and skid guard both are cracked beyond repair and will not attach anymore. They will be included if the new owner wants to zombie stitch them in place with zipties or something. The gear shift is noticeably bent, but it is still fully functional as is and is more cosmetic than anything. The rear fender has some stickers on it covering some screw holes (previous owner again) and the front blinkers have tape on the stems. They are sturdy, so I didn't bother removing the tape to see what part of it is broken, if anything. The rack on the back has one broken support on the back left, but it is still sturdy and can easily carry the max weight of 6 lbs (as per manufacturer warning). The exhaust guard was missing, so I used the heat-shield exhaust wrap to protect your leg, and it works great, possibly better than the factory guard (just a guess).
