Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1985 Toyota 4Runner. I purchased this car from its previous owner in California so it is not the typical rusted Toyota many of us are used to seeing. It has the highly desired combination of fuel injection and solid axle which Toyota only produced for the USA market in 1985. It is an automatic with 4.30 gearing from the factory. It comes with the brown interior, headrest type bucket seats (I notice in my pics that I didn't remove the seat cover from the driver's seat, this seat is in good shape I placed the cover on it to keep it that way), bench rear seat, new carpet, matching dash cover, factory rubber mats in cargo area, no power options, it now has a live gauge cluster with tachometer when I purchased the car it had the non-tach cluster with 116K miles on the clock, I like the live gauges and tach so that was one of the first things I did to the 4Runner, the gauge cluster I put in had 161K miles on it when installed so it is actually showing 45K more miles than the car had on it when I purchased it. The buyer will get the original gauge cluster with 116K on it in case you want to put it back in. I also replaced the aftermarket stereo (it was missing the face plate when I got it) with a Toyota factory radio from a mid 90's truck. The previous owner had put a lot of work into the 4Runner before I purchased it, most of which was good although he did some touch up paint work himself which is not so good. Both bedsides where painted at some point, he said due to some tree scrapes and scratches, there is no rust in the wheel wells or anywhere else so I believe it was simple damage repair. The car has undercoating which makes it look black and dirty underneath, it is cleaner than the photos show. There are the usual assortment of rock chips and parking lot dings throughout the car but I consider it to be in great shape for a 28 year old 4x4. It does have one dent/scrape on the driver's side rear corner that would require actual body work to repair, looks like someone backed into something or turned to sharp and scraped the corner Most of the mechanical work was done by his local Toyota dealer and one of their techs (some sort of brother in law deal he got from them on parts and labor) There are numerous receipts and fresh factory parts on the car including a Toyota battery, master cylinder, transmission service, engine R&R, etc... The engine was replaced about 5,000 miles ago with a re-manufactured long block. At that time a new exhaust sytem was installed with new catalytic converter, new pipe from the Y-pipe back and a Flowmaster muffler. I can't say that I'm a fan of the Flowmaster sound but I am getting old :-) When the engine was replaced the A/C was disconnected and I have not hooked it back up since I don't have the correct tools to flush, vacuum and fill it. The A/C wasn't an issue since I haven't driven the car much since I got it but now that it is hot I notice the lack of cold air on a 100 degree afternoon, I would say this is the biggest issue with the 4Runner at this time. The front hubs were replaced with late model hubs thus widening the track of the 4Runner and allowing the use of a wider variety of rims/tires. The brakes were also upgraded to vented rotors and later model V-6 calipers. The rear axle was replaced with a late model axle housing to widen the rear track. All axle and wheel seals were replaced and bearings packed, differential fluids changed at that time. The 4Runner has some spring lift on it, (I would say 3 inches) heavy duty shocks, extended stainless steel front brake lines and heavy extended rear shackles. All the spring bushings have been replaced with Energy Suspension bushings in the last 1000 miles or so. The 4Runner gets out and drives straight down the highway and runs great. I had the valves set, head bolt torque checked and timing/tune up checked when the engine had 3K miles on it to make sure everything was broken in properly. The rims and tires seen in the photos are off of my old Tacoma, they are Michelin 31x10.50x15 tires on Toyota factory aluminum rims. I just put them on today since the 4Runner had plain old steel rims with 32" tires that were not that flattering to look at before. It is an old truck and has its share of little quirks and dings but if you are looking for the most sought after Toyota 4x4 for a daily driver this is a great little truck. I drove it home 1500 miles from where I bought it and wouldn't be afraid to hop in it and make the same trip today. If you are wondering why I am selling the 4Runner, I live deep in the heart of the middle of nowhere, it takes many miles of dirt roads to get to my house and I like to/have to do a lot of 4wheeling. I would hate to tear the 4Runner up or have it rust out like everything else does around here so it has sat in my barn the majority of the time I have owned it. It's too nice of an old Toyota to go crashing through ice mud and timber with. I have 2 Tacomas and 2 full size trucks I don't feel so bad about beating up and recently purchased an 80 series LandCruiser, I think the LandCruiser will fit my "toy" needs better as I spend a lot more time on the road than on the trail, I will miss the 19 or 20 miles to the gallon the 4Runner gives though. So if the 4Runner sells I will be sad as I doubt I can replace it with another rust free low mileage one, if it doesn't I may just sell one of the Tacomas and drive the 4Runner. I can deliver the 4Runner to Wichita, Salina or Hays Kansas to meet the winning bidder after a deposit is made. All three of these have airports with Wichita being the largest. Email me through EBAY with any questions. Thanx, Scott...
