Vehicle Detail
For Auction is a great, very clean example of the rare Suzuki TL1000-S. Early production # (SN 00113). Adult-owned; never drag raced, no 'stoppies' etc. Only a couple accidental wheelies due to powerful torque of this classic bike (127 hp/80 ft-lbs torque). Bike specs were 414 lbs dry- about 440 lbs fully fueled/oiled. Wheelbase is 55.7", seat height is 32.9". Seat is comfortable wide Corbin with NO tears. Strap shown in front of seat in pics is for tank bag not included in auction. The 1997's were the most powerful of all the TL1000-S models...They had a couple issues which greatly affected reliability; the temp sensor for the water cooling system was located on the 'cold side' of the radiator circuit meaning until the thermostat opened the computer was running the cold map the whole time. Worse yet was the t-stat spec itself; it was set way too hot. I replaced the cooling hoses last year, and used the t-stat from the V-Strom & housing from the SV1000. So it has the '1998-on' cooling system. Radiator is excellent, no leaks. All parts, hoses, clamps & housings are Suzuki Factory parts. Once this mod alone was done the mileage went from 30 mpg to almost 40 mpg., and bike could loaf along at 2500 rpm with no hiccups. Stock it had to be kept at 3200 rpm or higher or it would sputter and surge. It's much happier now. The second problem was the headlight wiring/front harness which includes the fuel pump circuitry; all the original factory wire was small 22 ga., including the headlight circuit. So all these wires got quite hot carrying all that current and eventually embrittled the insulation so badly it would crack and start shorting, causing fuel cuts, dead by the side of the road -ahem- on and on. The factory replacement harness unfortunately is still the same tiny wire; it's a ton of work to replace this every couple years so I rewired the whole front harness with heavier gauge wire, replaced the front fuse box & replaced the light sockets themselves with ceramic automotive types. Lights are 5000K Silverstars, just a touch whiter than stock 4000k but they project much better due to actually getting some power..Voltage regulator is brand new MOSFET type as found in YZF1000 etc.. Battery also replaced a couple years ago. Holds a charge fine, never used a battery tender. The third problem was the rear suspension- it was a 'rotary damper', painstakingly engineered to replicate the action of a pc.of wood. I replaced the heavy, horrible rotary damper in 2010 with the excellent Italian-made Bitubo shock from Traxxion Dynamics; it is adjustable for compression, rebound and pre-load, and this just plain transformed the bike's handling. The front struts have zero leakage, are also adjustable, and have never been rebuilt. They function fine. The handlebars are actually Helibars, so the riding position is raised about 3" over stock, making it a bit more upright. I'm 6 feet tall, never got a sore back riding this bike. The brakes are stock discs, with HH metallic pads done 2 years ago, but in last 2 years only rode maybe 2000 miles, fronts aren't even fully bedded. Brake lines in the front are Goodridge. Brake fluid replaced in 2010. Fast Idle lever works, all lights/signals work, starts quickly. No timing chain noise, and helical gears that drive cams are in perfect condition. Magnesium valve covers have zero leakage. Wheels are from 2007 Hayabusa; (same size as stock TL-S) Brand new rear tire; 180/55 ZR17 Michelin Pilot Road 2CT, front tire is Michelin Pilot Power, with maybe 5k mi.on it. New factory steel sprockets, stock ratio, front & rear and new EK530 MVXZ x-ring chain ($$) with a few hundred miles on it. 180/55 is same OD as stock 190/50 tire so speedo reads true. But 180/55 is 4 lbs lighter reciprocating mass so adds to acceleration with just a 4% smaller contact patch Ignition wires and coils replaced with 2007 SV-S units, new platinum plugs, cleaned BMC (K&N type) air filter. New fuel pump and external fuel-filter mod (original was in the tank and a PITA to replace), new fuel pump housing gasket ($$ factory model). Dent-free gas tank and rust-free inside, and filled with fresh premium gas. Bike comes with spare gold-colored original front wheel (great condition, no dents), the SV1000-S lower fairing as pictured, extra factory seat, extra body panel fasteners, the red rear stand pictured, padded flat rear seat perch, Factory Manual & electrical schematic & miscellaneous other parts I'm forgetting right now. Includes a 'hot bodies' type under tail kit that came with bike- never installed as I needed the hooks for cargo bag tie-downs.. Bike has diagnostic computer and shows NO fault codes and balanced TPS setting. Throttle cable is stock, same with clutch which does not slip. Transmission shifts just fine, no glitches.I got the bike from 2nd owner- the stainless Yoshimura RS3 full system (stock baffles never touched) was installed on the bike early on and has no major dents, showing it's never been down, I don't even think accidentally while stationary. Valves were adjusted at 29k mi., and are still quiet. New filter and synthetic oil. No oil leaks from anywhere. Only blemish is left front nose plastic- see pics to see minor scrapes. OEM plastic still available at reasonable cost from Ron Ayers Motorsports. These bikes can be a handful to drive slowly given the strong engine braking of V-twins; the bike has a slipper-type clutch but is set pretty stiff. I would not recommend this bike for a first bike! It's also not a 100 mph wheelie bike- it's more a fast sports touring bike which can out-accelerate a Hayabusa from from 40-90mph, at which point the 'Busa rockets past. My point is the torque is immense and sudden and you'll learn to be very careful with the throttle! :-) I was outfitting it for an "ADV" type bike so watch my other auctions for the Cortech tank bag and Cortech rear 3-bag system. So bottom line is this is a clean & sorted and basically unmolested TL1000-S that needs nothing- just a new rider! passed recent NYS inspection.Only selling due to upcoming move. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Shipping bike is Buyer's responsibility. I will gladly help load on truck, local pickup OK with balance in cash. No personal checks sorry. Clean title in hand, no liens. On Jun-24-13 at 14:50:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I reserve the right to cancel bids from Buyers with negative or very little feedback. On Jun-25-13 at 20:20:45 PDT, seller added the following information: SALES TO USA BUYERS ONLY!! On Jun-26-13 at 13:41:50 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: the two previous bidders had their bids canceled by me; one was from Kazakhstan and the other had only one feedback rating- and it was negative for a no-show on a motorcycle sale!! There is nothing wrong with the bike, its just Ebay wants to penalize me for ending the auction and starting over. They don't have an option of "end listing and start again because two jerks wasted your time"!! Feel free to start bidding, thanks! arrrgh...
