Vehicle Detail

I’m auctioning this classic GTV because I’ve fallen in love with yet another Italian beauty. The car is in great running shape, and is one of the most appreciated body styles of the ‘60s and ‘70s. I bought the car in September, 2006 via eBay from a guy in Staten Island, NY. The car had about 57,000 miles on it at that time. I drove it home to Illinois touring through Long Island and New England. Other than attending some local car shows with it I've driven it very little during the time I've owned it. I had it repainted in Januay, 2011 the same dark green (Alfa pino verde?) as it was when I bought it. It was originally a beige or ivory color. My repaint job is far from show car quality. I recently had to have some metal welded into the footwell floors where rust penetration had occurred due to a missing drain tube (now replaced) from the heater air intake plenum. The car is in the original configuration and is quite solid. The original Spica fuel injection works well, so I haven’t been tempted to convert to Webers. Much of the running gear had been updated by the previous owner including front and rear brakes (performance calipers, rotors, pads, and hoses), all poly bushings, and KYB shocks. As a result, it steers, rides, and handles very nicely. A new gas tank was installed in 2005. As you can see it has pristine Cromodora wheels and a Nardi steering wheel. Additional pictures are available at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58427540@N05/sets/72157633815771399/ Please note that a couple of the pictures are from before, during, and after the 2011 re-paint. You will also find there a couple of videos of the car being run up and down through the gears. I also included some shots showing the oil pressure readings. My mechanic assures me that the oil pressure when measured by a direct read off the oil gallery is much higher than the dashboard gauge reads, even after having replaced the oil sensor unit. First, the not so good: The recent paint re-spray is only driver quality. The car deserves to be repainted with a first-rate paint job as the current paint is only good from about ten feet. The synchros in the transmission are weak as they are in most old Alfas. They can be beaten by shifting too fast. Cautious shifting or double-clutching works fine. Note shifting normally as shown in the videos causes no graunching. A welded-in metal repair has been done to a small area in the rear underside of the car and spare tire well and to the very corners of the front footwells. The car was assigned a replacement Kansas VIN number at some time in the past - don't know the reason why. The car is currently titled, licensed, and insured in Illinois. Bumpers have some scratches. Needs replacement of side window fuzzy strips. The good: The car has a solid body in decent driver condition. The car starts and runs well. The Cromodora 5-star wheels are in great shape. It is fitted with a beautiful wooden Nardi steering wheel and wooden gearshift knob. A complete new exhaust system from the header on back was installed May, 2013. Original Spica mechanical fuel injection works well. Good headliner. Original upholstery in decent condition. The driver's seat is currently at the upholsterer being re-covered in the original style to take care of tears in the original upholstery that you can see in one older picture. The map pockets in the footwells are also being re-covered. The passenger seat has been temporarily moved to the driver side while the driver's seat is being reupholstered. Slightly lowered springs from Centerline, shocks, roll bars, and bushings were fitted by previous owner. Decent 185/70R14 Kumho tires were installed at about 55,000 miles. Not red. Car has been re-painted Alfa dark green. Comes with new complete interior carpet set from International Auto Parts. I prefer the original molded carpet. New battery with quick disconnect for storage. Maintenance done May, 2013: Spark plugs replaced Tank fuel filter and main fuel filter replaced Air filters replaced Oil and filter changed (20W-50 and STP ZDDP additive) The small oil filter for the fuel injection unit replaced If you purchase this car at anywhere near my low reserve price you could install Euro cams and Webers and improve the paint and still be above water compared to the going prices of fully restored Alfa GTVs these days. Please come and inspect and test drive it in Springfield, Illinois. Please conduct compression and oil pressure test in advance of purchase. I can take the car to a local inspection mechanic of your choice (Eurosport, Coventry Connection, or Floyd's Imports might be good places in Springfield capable of conducting this work) at your expense. Buyer is responsible for arranging for shipping or pickup. I can assist with getting the car to your shipper or will drive it to you if you pay my airfare home. A $1000.00 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction closing. Remainder is due prior to pickup or cash at time of pickup. If at the time of pickup you find the car not to your satisfaction I will refund your deposit minus $200 for the cost of re-listing the car. This refund option is not offered if I drive the car to you.
