Vehicle Detail

Here is my 1969 BMW 1600. The car is a real original mileage survivor and an excellent candidate for a full restoration. Info about these cars is found below, but I will tell everything I know about this particular car. The car was purchased new in Pennsylvania by Dr and Mrs Paul Reis on November 15, 1969 for the sum of $2,550 trading in a 1967 Triumph Imp. Dr Reis purchased the car at the age of 73. He owned the car until 1998 when the car was sold to a local dealership. During his ownership Dr Reis put only 34,356 miles on the car. In the past 15 years only 930 miles have been driven. I have owned the car since January 2009 and after the purchase it was placed in my barn with the intention of restoring it one day. Well, that day has not come. I pulled it from my barn and it is now for sale. The interior is completely original and shows only 34K miles worth of wear and tear. The interior is missing a few trim pieces and the passenger visor is missing a clip. The doors have some peeling chrome from the panels and I am unaware if these are still available. At some point during its long life the Dr had the car repainted in the original Derby Blue, which is almost a slate blue color. The hood has screen material glued over the vents, which is something my grandfather used to do on his cars. As you can see in the photos below rust is starting at a few locations, such as the jacking point on the drivers side. In front of the right rear tire in the wheel well. The spare tire wheel has surface rust starting towards the front of the vehicle (see photos) Overall the body is in good condition. The car had not been run for several years, yet when I put a battery in, it started right up. The car idles just as it should. I tried to take it for a ride but I think the guibo on the drive shaft is completely worn and will need to be replaced before driving any distance.(it sounds like it is slapping) The starter also must have a worn spot as it takes several tries before it kicks in, once it does the car starts right up. I've tried to answer as many questions to help possible bidders, but if you have specific questions please don't hesitate to ask. The winning bidder must pay for the car within 48 hours of the close of the auction with a certified bank check that must clear before I will release the car for transport. Thanks for looking! The most legendary series ever introduced by BMW, the 1600 Series was introduced in the late 1960's. A total of 10,278 models were produced. Considered to ‘the best small sedan we ever drove' by the February issue of Car and Driver, the 1600 was reasonably priced and affordable to most at the time. At $2,500, the 1600 series was extremely economical with up to 30 mpg highway. Beginning with the 1600-2, the two-door model, rolling off the runway, it was an instantaneous hit. Derivatives of the 1600 were almost immediately introduced, a total of fourteen in all. Unfortunately the 1600 was unable to import, due to the 1968 twin carb engine and regulations from the U.S. Emission controls. The result was the largest four-cylinder engine being installed into the smallest body coupe. The pistons from the 1800 were used in the 1600 to enlarge the 1500's engine. The improvement updated the engine to 1.6 (1573 cc) and 85 hp (63 kW). The four door 1600 model was originally introduced in 1964 and continued to be produced until 1968. In 1966, the 1602 or 1600-2 was introduced and continued to be sold until 1975. The 1602 came with an increased output of 96 hp (71 kW) and was sold at $2,676. The 1600ti was introduced from 1967 to 1971 and was a limited-production cabriolet that was produced by Baur and showcased the same dual Solex PHH side draft carburetors as on the 1800TI. The 1600ti boasted 105 hp. A total of 1,682 models were produced during it's four years of production. Produced from 1971 for one year, a hatchback 1600 Touring model was introduced briefly. The 1600ti was discontinued soon after the release of the 2002, and the Cabriolet version was ended in 1971.On Jun-14-13 at 05:20:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I should also say that I have the original sales agreement, title, owners manual, drivers handbook and prescription pad from the Doctor. I should also correct my mistake that the Doctor was 65 when he bought the car, not 73.
